Denso India Acquires New Technology

Shilpa Garg NEW DELHI

Denso India would be paying Denso Japan, an aggregate fee of 200 million yen (approximately $1.89 million) during the next three years (the period of the agreement).

The reason cited by Denso India for this transfer of technology is to meet both qualitative and quantitative requirements of its customers in the country, in the rapidly expanding and competitive automotive industry.

The government, through the ministry of commerce and industry, has given an approval to Denso India for acquiring the additional technology from Denso Corp, Japan.

Denso India is now targeting a turnover of Rs 223 crore for 2002. Harvansh P Chawla, managing partner of the law firm, K R Chawla & Co, that represents Denso Corporation in India refused to comment on it and said the information is "client-attorney privileged information".

The additional technology for starters and alternators includes all designs, engineering data, manufacturing and processed data, facility layouts, testing and quality control data, production and testing equipment data for modification, development, upgradation and application of the current basic underlying technology for the commercial production of products .

Denso India has a extensive clientele list with some majors clients being Maruti Udyog and Toyota Kirloskar Motors.
