Dues To Sick Psu Staff To Be Paid Soon

Union labour minister Sayra Narain Jatiya yesterday told the Lok Sabha that the government would soon come up with an announcement on dues of workers of various sick public sector undertakings that had accumulated to Rs 1824 crore till December 31, 1999.

The minister stated that though the government was not under statutory obligation to pay the dues of workers as some of the Public Sector Undertakings were before the Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction (BIFR) under the Sick Industries Companies Act(SICA).

Nevertheless, a group of ministers is examining the issue and it was hoped that soon the government would come up with `a good result'.
