Equities Post Moderate Losses After Better Opening

After a better opening, share prices fell on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) yesterday on fresh offerings and closed with moderate losses. The NSE-50 index, opened higher at 1052.20 and improved further to touch a high of 1059.25.
Thereafter, it declined to 1048.05 and closed at 1050.80, showing a small gain of 2.40 against the last level of 1048.40.

The midcap started better at 1137.10 and rose further to 1144.45. Later, it fell to a low of 1137.10, before terminating at 1139.65, a gain of 3.15 from the previous level of 1136.50.
Total turnover was Rs 1,567.67 crore from 561.53 lakh shares in trades of 1,36,837. Debentures traded value was Rs.39.66 lakh.
The top 25 traded securities were ITC (Rs.636.79 cr), SBI (Rs.343.58 cr), Reliance (Rs.171.60 cr), Telco (Rs.108.90 cr), Tisco (Rs 95.53 cr), Bajaj Auto (Rs 39.68 cr), ACC (Rs 29.23 cr), L&T (Rs 19.65 cr), Bhel (Rs 9.63 cr), Bank of India (Rs 8.87 cr), MTNL (Rs 6.73 cr), IPCL (Rs 5.64 cr), OBC (Rs 5.50 cr), BSES (Rs 4.64 cr), Tata Tea (Rs 3.83 cr), Bank of Rajasthan (Rs 3.73 cr), Sundram Fin (Rs 3.17 cr), HDFC (Rs 2.20 cr), Ponds (Rs 2.04 cr), Exide Industries (Rs 2.02 cr), Glaxo (Rs 2.00 cr), Hindustan Lever (Rs 1.86 cr), Sterlite (Rs 1.67 cr), Hindustan Petroleum (Rs 1.66 cr) and Tata Power (Rs 1.40 cr).
Equity prices reacted modestly on selling pressure at the Over the Counter Exchange of India (OTCEI). The OTCcomposite index opened at 84.81 and closed at 84.28, a fall of 0.86 over its previous close of 85.14. The total turnover was Rs.71.36 lakh involving 1,49,465 shares and debentures. The major contribution was from the listed equity of Rs 43.44 lakh from 1,24,900 shares. Listed debentures contributed Rs 27.79 lakh from 24,555 debentures.
