Equities Stage Smart Recovery

Equities recovered smartly during yesterdays trading on the National Stock Exchange (NSE). The Nifty shot up by 25.40 points to close the day at 1060.60 as against the previous close of 1035.20.
The total traded volume went up to Rs 1452.17 crore with nearly 6.22 crore shares changing hands. The NSE-50 index opened at 1041.45 points, touched a high of 1061.80 went to a low 1041.25 before closing at 1060.60. The MidCap index closed at 1092.15 points gaining 16.75 in the process.

Sources said the rally was led by RIL which recorded a total turnover of Rs 420.65 crore. The scrip closed at Rs 299.20 as against the previous close of Rs 279.70, a gain of nearly Rs 20. Today the Reliance board is expected to meet to approve the half yearly results.
Other scrips in the limelight included SBI. The total traded turnover of the scrip went up to Rs 460.50 crore. The scrip closed at Rs 311.10 as against the previous close of Rs 296.90, a gain of nearly Rs 16.
Sources say the renewed interest was because of positive political developments, which gave punters new hope. The market will remain bullish in the days to come and we could see the Nifty touching new highs, said an NSE dealer.
The total traded volume of ITC scrip touched Rs 275.22 crore, it closed at Rs 423.85 as against the previous close of Rs 415.90, a gain of nearly Rs 8. The other scrips which witnessed considerable volume include, Tisco (Rs 43.9 cr), ACC (Rs 30.90 cr), Telco (Rs 29.08 cr), MTNL (Rs 17.78 cr), BSES (Rs 11.47 cr), HLL (Rs 9.28 cr), ITI scrip touched the filter circuit level at Rs 12.95 on the exchange. The top gainers of the day were Bihar Alloys Steel, C G Glass, Ambuja Electrocasting, VHEL Industries and Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers.
Meanwhile share prices declined marginally on the Over the Counter Exchange of India (Otcei). The composite index opened at 86.10 and closed at 86.06 showing a decrease of 0.63 over its previous close of 86.69. The total turnover for the day was Rs 46.06 lakh involving 1.34 lakh shares and debentures. Major contribution was from the listed debentures with contributed Rs 23.86 lakh (2500 debentures).
