Hyundai Plans Scotland Chip Plant

The main purpose of the project is securing a production base in Europe in order to expand our market share in the region and overcome trade barriers, a Hyundai spokesman said.

The plant would begin commercial production of dynamic random access memory (DRAM) chips in December 1998 and generate about 1,000 jobs, he said.

Hyundais plan came on the heels of LG Groups 1.7 billion deal in July to make semiconducters and electronic goods in Wales
