India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) is synonymous with the countrys trade promotion around the world all round the year translating into a search for new frontiers and new horizons in the world of commercial interaction both at macro and micro levels. A mission that finds expression in the successful organisation of trade exhibitions in India and abroad.
As the premier trade promotion agency of the Government of India, the India Trade Promotion Organisation provides a broad spectrum of services to trade and industry so as to catalyse the growth of bilateral trade, particularly Indias exports and technological upgradation and modernisation of different industry segments.

As a nodal agency of the Government, ITPO accords approval for holding of international trade fairs in India in order to ensure and facilitate, interalia, Customs clearance of imported exhibits.
Besides, as the nodal agency of the Government, ITPO provides advice and assistance to State Governments in respect of proposals for setting up trade fair complexes in the State Capitals. In fact, ITPO is currently attending to proposals in this regard from the Governments of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
Pragati Maidan - A delight
ITPO manages Indias only world class exhibition complex which is being renovated, modernised and upgraded from time to time to keep it in a high standard of fair - worthiness. Spread over 149 acres of prime land in the very heart of Indias Capital and busting megapolis, New Delhi, Pragati Maidan offers 54,685 sq.metres of covered exhibition space in 15 halls besides 10,000 sq.metres of open display area.
Concerted efforts have been made to keep Pragati Maidan busy throughout the year with well-attended international and national exhibitions focussing on various sectors of the industry.
During the fair business hours, Pragati Maidan is visited by captains of industry and trade, presidents and vice-presidents of organisations, senior managers, technologists, opinion-makers and officers of government and financial institutions besides specialised trade delegations.
ITPOs Exhibitions in India
The International events that have, over the years, developed an institutionalised character include Electronics India, International Security Exhibition, Ahara (Food Expo), Printpack India, International Shoe Fair, the prestigious India International Trade Fair, Prakash (Lighting Exhibition) ( all at Pragati Maidan) and the India International Leather Fair (at Madras). These exhibitions enjoy tremendous industry support, both from the point of view of participation and visitor turnout, from India and abroad. ITPOs magnum opus, the India International Trade Fair continues to be a major business attraction.
ITPOs Exhibitions Overseas
ITPO has a major programme of organising participation by Indian companies in international fairs in various parts of the world. These fairs offer fora for exporters of an array of merchandise ranging from textiles and garments, leather goods, handlooms and handicrafts to engineering goods, hardware, machine tools and electronic and computer items. ITPO has regularly taken Indian products, technologies and services to more than 100 cities in different parts of the world. ITPO is also the Government of Indias chosen agency for national participation in World Expos.
The identification and selection of overseas fairs is based on the opportunities that these exhibitions offer to Indian exporters. ITPO extends a variety of facilities to participants including market information, publicity and visitor promotion, design inputs, freight handling and clearing and insurance of cargo etc.
Some of the lending fairs in which ITPO has been regularly organising Indias participation are EICMA (Italy), Annual Spring Fair, Basel (Switzerland), Pret-a-Porter Fair, and Intersic Fair (France), International Spring Fair and International Food & Drink Exhibition (UK), Overseas Import Fair, Heimtextil, Domotex, Interkama, International Hardware Fair, Anuga, and IHM- International Light Industries and Handicrafts Fair (Germany), Konsumexpo (Russia), National Hardware Show, Interbike, Big -I/APAA (USA), besides International Fairs in Iran, South Africa, Syria, Ghana, the Middle East region and Thailand, among others.
A noteworthy feature 1994-95 was the organising of exclusive Indian Exhibitions in Johannesburg (South Africa), Dubai (UAE), Yangon (Myanmar), St.Petersburg and Moscow (Russia) which proved to be runaway successes.
Buyer-Seller Meets
Buyer-Seller Meets organised by ITPO have been a highly successful method of market penetration in Japan for select Indian products like garments and fashion accessories, home furnishings etc. The 15th Garment & Fashion Accessories BSM at Osaka, the 5th Buyer-Seller Meet for Home Furnishings at Tokyo etc. Over the years, the BSMs on Apparels and Home Furnishings have emerged as the annual meeting place for Indian sellers and potential Japanese customers. Significantly the profile of buyers has improved substantially to include some of the best importers, wholesalers, trading companies, department stores, supermarkets and other retailers.
Promotions through department stores
ITPO has also been organising India Promotion viz. the promotion of Indian merchandise exports in association with leading overseas department stores like Bloomingdales, JC Penny, Harrods, Galleries Lafayette, Liberty etc. Till date, 27 India Promotion campaigns have been carried out through reputed department stores overseas with phenomenal success.
ITPO harks back to Indias golden past while aspiring for a promising future. It is, today commited to continue the trend and recapture the excellence achieved by our forbears in the areas of trade and commerce.
