Jagdish Capoor New Rbi Deputy Governor

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed Jagdish Capoor as its deputy governor and C Harikumar as executive director.

Both appointments are effective from January 1, 1997.

Capoor will look after the department of banking operations & development, the industrial & export credit department, the premises department, the central security cell, the legal department, the department of administration & personnel management, human resources development (including training) and the secretary's department.

Capoor was executive director of the RBI and was on deputation to the Unit Trust of India (UTI) as its acting chairman.

Capoor joined the RBI in 1962 and has worked in various departments of the bank.

 

He received training overseas in Deutsche Bundesbank and the Deutsche Bank in Frankfurt, and the Bank of England and Barclays International in London.

Harikumar served as chief general manager of RBI's Chennai office prior to his promotion. He will look after the exchange control department, the premises department and the secretary's department.
