Lakhani Plans Leather Footwear Range

The range, which includes separate lines for men, women and children, will have various price categories and will retailed under Lakhani's own brand name.
The company has earmarked an outlay of Rs 5 crore for the range.
Lakhani's, which will employ technology and design indigenously developed, will produce over 2,000 pairs of leather shoes a month, which will be gradually increased when volumes pick up.
The company has also chalked out extensive plans to move into the PVC (polyvinyl chloride) segment.
This would be in direct competition to Bata, the biggest producer of PVC shoes which it retails under the Sandak brand name. Lakhani, which has a distribution system through wholesalers, intends to set up exclusive retail shops in metropolises.

The shops, which would be franchised to retailers, would be identical in design and concept.
It is in the final stages of negotiation with Walt Disney of United States for a brand name franchisee agreement for its range of children's footwear.
The agreement, already drafted, will be signed by the two collaborating companies by the end of the month.
Lakhani is also finalising another agreement with the United States-based sports shoe major New Balance for a manufacturing and marketing collaboration.
New Balance, the fourth largest company in the world, will be sharing its technological expertise in the business with Lakhani.
