Maheshwar Dam Project

A California-based US agency, International River Network, has hailed the Madhya Pradesh governments decision to suspend the Maheshwar dam project and set up a committee to assess the environmental and social hazards posed by the dam. In a statement issued by the agency, environmentalist Medha Patkar said, in 1993, we threw the World Bank out of the Sardar Sarovar dam. Now we have thrown the private companies out of Maheshwar. This will send a strong message to all companies that privatisation on their terms will not be accepted.
