Ministers Told To Give 3% Jobs To Disabled

BSCAL

The Prime Minister has asked the ministers to ensure that the Persons with Disabilities Equal Opportunities Act is implemented. The Act came into force in February this year.

An official spokesman told reporters that in all the Union government sponsored social sector and poverty alleviation programmes, three per cent of the fund provided has to be reserved for direct benefit for persons with disability.

Recently, in a series of steps aimed at assisting people with disabilities, the Centre has asked the states to convert at least one government school in each district or block into an integrated school to provide access to education.

The Centre has also announced a scheme for organising people with disability into unions in villages and said Rs 15,000 should be given to each group for suitable economic activities.
