Nikkei Telecom To Provide Online Information Services

Rakhi Mazumdar BSCAL

Nikkei Telecom, Japan's leading online information service provider of news on companies, the markets and economy, will soon be offering its services in India.

The information services firm will be the first Japanese news service provider to do so. The company is currently scouting for a Delhi-based local representative.

Senior company officials said the service could start with an initial number of 10 subscribers.

In addition to offering all the vital data that securities and financial dealers may need, the service provides a complete range of information for fundamental analysis of the Japanese economy.

Nikkei Telecom is one of the pioneers in the electronic information systems in the economic field, as well as the publisher of Japan's leading economic newspaper.

The company charges a flat rate of $100 per user code and a fixed monthly charge of $1,500 per user code for its service on its exclusive worldwide network, titled Needs-Net.

Another type of charge is the base rate plus usage fee which includes a usage charge of $1 per minute and an initial fee of $100 per user code.

Hook-up fees are based on the nearest communication node available.

Inspite of the emergence of Tokyo as a major international financial market, information on the Tokyo markets has been out of reach due to the language barrier. Nikkei Telecom Japan News & Retrieval breaks through the barrier by offering a comprehensive, English-language information system available throughout the world.

The company also offers an online information service on the Internet which is available free of charge.

A personal computer with asynchronous communications software and a modem interface can be used for gaining connection to Nikkei Telecom's service.
