Padmini Poly In Bid To Get Us Patent For Cds

Padmini Polymers is learnt to have applied for a patent in the US for its new-generation designer CDs.
According to the company, the CD developed by the company can be given almost any shape that the user wishes. "We have been able to develop the CD using advanced technologies and have applied for the patent in the US," said A K Saxena, vice-president in charge of operations and development.
In addition to this, the company is in the process of tying up with various magazines, publishers and electronic companies towards building the CDs with their merchandise.

"We should be hitting around Rs 100 crore by March 2001 in these segments. We are further tying up with the best music companies of the world to use their music in these CDs," he added.
According to the company, the CD can be customised into a visiting card, wherein it could be used as a business card. Pointing out the possibilities that the CD has, he said that it could even be customised into being an integrated CD ROM with an on-body of a wedding card depicting audio visual.
To popularise the product, the company will be launching the CDs at important festivals and cultural events, Saxena said.
Padmini has invested around Rs 60 crore to set up facilities in the country covering areas from software development to CD replication. It had also tied up with various companies like Microprose of he UK, Ivanoff of Denmark, Midas of Netherlands, Monolith of the US and Interactive of Sweden for their CD ROM titles and multimedia games.
