Project To Assist Small Industries Launched

To assist the small and medium industries in updating their technologies, the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) at Hyderabad launched UPTECH project jointly with Government of Andhra Pradesh and Government of India.
Addressing the press on the eve of the launch, Indian Institute of Chemical Technology director K V Raghavan said the project would guide the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) in waste management technology, process cleanup technologies, quality management and overseas marketing.
The project initially aimed at helping the bulk drug industry in Hyderabad involves a custom synthesis approach. A consortium of small and medium enterprises from Bulk Drug Manufactures' Association (BDMA) is also participating in the Rs 3.1 crore project.

Initially UPTECH selected three important bulk drug components, namely Ciprofloxacin, Ranitidine and Ibuprofen for environmental cleaning of existing processes.
Indian Institute of Chemical Technology yesterday has also transferred 2,4 Dichlorofluorobenzene (2,4 DCFB)technology to Hindustan Organic Chemicals Ltd. (HOCL).2,4 DCFB is an important intermediate used in drug and pesticide manufacturing.
The Indian Institute of Chemical Technology and HOCL will soon commercialise the intermediate. Reena Ramachandran, chairman and managing director of HOCL received the technology documents from Raghavan.
Sheela Bhide, who happens to be the principal secretary to the govt. of Andhra Pradesh for industries announced that the Andhra Pradesh government would soon launch a programme to train the Small & Medium Enterprises on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in association with All India Association of Biotechnology.
