Refrigerator Wing Not For Sale: Voltas

Voltas has denied reports that its refrigerators division, including the newly acquired Allwyn refrigerator unit, is up for sale and that Whirlpool India has shown interest in acquiring the same.

It, however, admitted that certain Whirlpool India officials had been visiting Allwyn Voltas and its Nandalur factory near here to explore the possibility of sourcing from Allwyn's spare manufacturing capacity.

Voltas vice-president (WG) S N Tripathi reiterated his company's commitment to the white goods business by the recent launch of two frost-free refridgerator models, which was not suggestive of an impending disinvestment.

Tripathi said Voltas has been pursuing several international companies, sourcing of the latter's production in Allwyn, utilising its spare capacity.

 

This is a revenue generating strategy (for Voltas) that makes good business sense, he said.
