The State Bank of India (SBI) has promoted 23 general managers to chief general managers (CGM). The bank has also appointed A N Joshi, the chief general manager at Bangalore, as managing director of SBI Factors with effect from July following the retirement of K Sankaranarayanan.
The appointment of the CGMs was long overdue as the post of seven CGMs had remained vacant for a long time. The board of the bank decided to promote the GMs to CGMs last week and this is with effect from May 15, SBI sources said.
SBI officials said that the newly appointed DMD, D P Roy, is slated to handle the international banking portfolio.

Meanwhile, S K Mukerjee, managing director of Discount and Housing Finance of India (DFHI), is slated to take over as managing director of State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur (SBBJ) following the retirement of K R Maheshwari.
The newly appointed DMD, Vepa Kamesen will take over as MD at State Bank of Travancore since G G Vaidhya, MD at SBT, is expected to be transferred to the corporate office within a few months, sources said.
Among the 23 CGMs promoted last week, SBI has decided the posting of seven CGMs while the posting of the remaining CGMs will be decided depending on the vacancy created.
Four CGMs have been appointed in the banks corporate office which include H Lal (earlier GM in commercial banking at Ahmedabad being promoted as CGM-credit). K Seshayi, earlier the GM at systems and technology, has been promoted as the CGM is the same department.
N K Puri is promoted as CGM-foreign office and S A Farooqi is promoted as CGM-management audit. N K Sampat earlier GM development bank in Mumbai has been appointed as the principal of State Bank Staff at Gurgaon.
N Sadashivan, earlier GM Credit in corporate office, is appointed CGM in Bangalore and R Asthana, earlier GM-Calcutta, is appointed as CGM in Bhopal.
