Scrips Inch Up

Speculatives finished with small gains on the Delhi Stock Exchange (DSE) yesterday when a few counters picked up on buying of a short-covering nature and others softened on profit selling.
Marketmen said many Asian markets opened the day sharply higher amid optimism about the regions economic woes, unleashing a fresh spell of profit-selling by speculators. Investors were cheered by encouraging reports from overseas bourses but profit-taking depressed prices.

In the gainers section, multinationals were the star performers on speculative buying and shares like Hindustan Lever, Hero Honda and ITC finished significantly higher. However, scrips of automobile segment lost fresh ground on profit selling influenced by reports that automobile companies performance in the first nine months of the current fiscal year was disappointing.
The DSE sensitive index finished 1.43 points up at 721.94 points, after touching the days low of 717. The gainers were RIL, MTNL, ACC, Arvind Mills L&T, Nestle India, Tisco and SmithKline Beecham.
