Sdrc To Pump In $4m Per Year

US-based Structural Dynamics Research Corporation (SDRC), which has set up a 100 per cent subsidiary in India, plans to invest $ 3 to 4 million annually to augment its market share. SDRC is a leading international supplier of mechanical design automation software.
SDRC's market position globally strengthened after the acquisition of a US-based computer firm Imageware Corporation at around $ 31 million. The acquisition provided SDRC with advanced surfacing and reverse engineering products and technology. Imageware opened an Indian office also.
SDRC has turned its focus on India to increase its market share. It introduced a software used for solid modelling to manufacture software tool called I-DEAS Artisan series 3, in the Indian market.

"SDRC with its leadership product, I-DEAS Master Series has dominated the three-dimensional computer-aided design, manufacturing market in India with over 40 per cent share. We are now able to package and price this leadership three-dimensional product with IDEAS Artisan series for the bulk of the Indian market as users move from two-dimensions to three-dimensions," SDRC's director (South Asia-Pacific) Kin Lai said.
The customer list of SDRC in India includes Mahindra and Mahindra, Telco, Ashok Leyland and Bajaj Tempo and automobile component suppliers like Brakes India, Wheels India, Rane Group, Tata Jhonson, Voltas AIG, and Mahindra Sona among others.
The 100 per cent subsidiary of Structural Dynamics would dabble in activities related to electronics and software. Initial equity of $ 2.2 million would be raised to $ 4.7 million over five years.
The activities will include establishment of a research and development centre in India to assist in the development of CAD/CAM/CAE/PDM software functionalities and the enhancement and export of existing software applications.
The company will also undertake export of PDM software implementation services, sale of CAD/CAM/PDM software products in the Indian market, setting up of an engineering service centre and training centre and providing support and maintenance services.
SDRC reported $ 351 million in revenue for the fiscal year ended December 31, 1997.
The company initiated its first public stock offering in the fall of 1987.
