Sentiment Dull As Pivotals Move In A Narrow Range

Trading sentiment remained dull yesterday at the National Stock Exchange (NSE) with the pivotals moving in a narrow range. The NSE-50 index closed at 1050.85 points, a gain of 0.05 point against the previous close of 1050.80. The Midcap index closed at 1133.95 points against the previous close of 1139.65, a loss of 5.70 points.
The ITC scrip topped the list of the most actively traded scrip on the exchange. The total traded turnover on the exchange touched Rs 579.17 crore. The scrip closed at Rs 446.95 against the previous close of Rs 449.60. The scrip was been witnessing hectic activity in anticipation of an excellent corporate performance.

The company declared a net profit of Rs 342 crore , which was less than what the market was expecting. The scrip opened at Rs 451.80 went to a high of Rs 454.90, touched a low of Rs 437 before closing at Rs 446.95. Nearly 12.89 crore shares of the company exchanged hands during yesterday's trading.
Market sources informed the scrip will come down in the coming weeks as there was a lot of speculative buying by the punters in this counter.
This apart, the scrips which attracted huge volumes included, SBI, with the trading volume touching Rs 246.83 crore and Reliance 68.57 crore. Among the top five gainers include IDBI which closed at Rs 91.15 against the previous close of Rs 88.10, Grasim, which closed at Rs 363.45 against the previous close of Rs 353.55, Thermax closed at Rs 287.75 against the previous close of Rs 280.05, Gujarat Ambuja closed at Rs 2875 against the previous close of Rs 279.55. The top five losers included M &M, Cochin Refineries, Bajaj Auto, Reliance Capital and Castrol. Market sources said, the FIIs continued to make select buying in the B1 and B2 group.
