Share Prices Notch Up Gains On Fii Support

Software scrips dominated the proceedings on the BSE yesterday on renewed buying support. The Sensex closed at 3860.97, a gain of 25.62 points over the previous close of 3835.35.
Marketmen said there was some selling pressure from the domestic institutions which got absorbed due to FII buying support at lower levels.Mirroring the general trend, the Sensex opened at 3835.57, touched an intra-day high of 3866.17, saw a low of 3834.14 before moving up to 3860.97 at close. The bourse recorded a turnover of Rs 655.58 crore for the day.

Among the software scrips in the limelight were Infosys Technologies, Tata Infotech and Satyam Computer. Infosys closed the day at Rs 1775, a gain of Rs 134.50 while Tata Infotech was frozen at the upper end of the circuit filter at Rs 1002, up Rs 91 over the previous close. Satyam Computer touched a new high of Rs 91.50 during intra-day trading, but closed lower at Rs 90.25, a gain of Rs 7 over the previous close. Market attributed the flare up in the Infosys scrip to the raising of FII limit in the stock while the Tata infotech scrip moved up on the news that the company would be holding a meeting to discuss the bonus issue.
Among the index based scrips, the major gainer of the day was ACC, which gained Rs 32 to end the day at Rs 1092. Reliance gained Rs 5 at Rs 315.25, Tata Power Rs 4.25 at Rs 135.50 while Mahindra & Mahindra moved up by Rs 13.25 on good corporate performance to close at Rs 257.
Oil scrips too, fared well yesterday with BPCL, Hindustan Oil Exploration and ONGC scoring handsome gains. The BPCL scrip gained Rs 13.50 to close at Rs 400.25, ONGC gained Rs 7.25 to close at Rs 287.25 while Hindustan Oil Exploration was frozen at the upper end of the filter circuit at Rs 43.25, a gain of Rs 3.75.
