Small Gains

The ITC scrip stole the limelight with hectic trading and marked advancement in prices in the Calcutta stock exchange yesterday where a majority of other counters closed with small to moderate losses. The sensitive index stood at 105.98, gaining a marginal 0.09 points over the previous close.

Expectations on ITC to come out with exceptionally good financial results despite severe problems created by the enforcement directorate last year prompted the operators and investors alike to make fresh commitments in the counter. The trading volume touched a high of Rs 286-63 crore and the counter advanced to close at Rs 420.10 against the previous closing of Rs 408.50.

 

Indal, Hindalco and HLL were the other counters in the specified group that closed with gains of Rs 8.50, Rs 13 and Rs 29. While others closed with losses. The prominent losers were ACC (Rs 21), Grasim (Rs 3), Hind Motor (60 paise), RIL (Rs 4), SBI (Rs 2.80), Tisco (Rs 2.40).

The others, however, managed to close with insignificant losses.
