Steady Trend Continues As Sentiment Improves

The trading sentiment on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) improved on the first day of the current settlement yesterday. The NSE-50 index closed at 1161.90 against the previous close of 1155.30, a gain of 6.60 points. The Midcap index closed at 1171.60 points, a loss of 3.75 points over the previous close of 1175.35 points.

The total traded turnover touched Rs 1,954.42 crore with nearly 6.62 crore shares changing hands. Sources said the market is expected to remain steady and firm up further in the days to come. There is a lot foreign funds being pumped into the market. The funds are coming in both from the existing FIIs and the new ones that have entered the Indian market, informed the market sources.

 

Among the top five gainers were Essar Steel, which closed at Rs 14.85 (Rs 13.85), Asian Paints at Rs 349.60 (Rs 331.15), Hindustan Lever Ltd at Rs 1346.25 (1282.70), Bombay Suburban Electric Supply at Rs 240.25 (Rs 231.05) and Galxo at Rs 369.25 (Rs 356.25). The Reliance scrip fell marginally, it closed at Rs 368.55 against the previous close of Rs 368.85. Its total traded turnover touched Rs 937.92.

Housing & Development Finance Corporation (HDFC) counter dipped and closed at Rs 3722.15 against the previous close of Rs 3806.05. The total traded turnover touched Rs 11.86 crore. Among the top five losers were, Reliance Petroleum which closed at Rs 17.80 (Rs 18.35), Arvind Mills at Rs 127.75 (Rs 130.65), HDFC at Rs 3722.15 (Rs 3806), Oriental Bank of Commerce at Rs 68.05 (Rs 69.50).

The SBI closed at Rs 341.65 against the previous close of Rs 340.35. Its total traded was only Rs 256.08 crore. The ACC closed at Rs 1322.65 over the earlier close of Rs 1281.60. The total traded at this counter touched Rs 82.29 crore.
