Sun Lines Up 15 Solaris Tech Centres

R Srinivasan BSCAL

Sun Microsystems, the largest Unix training organisation worldwide, is planning to set up 15 Solaris technology centres in the country this calendar year. The institutions will be based on Sun platform.

The company's first such centre will be opened here today.

Vivek Padubidri, country manager, Sun Education Services, said the centre is set up in alliance with Bangalore-based Indian Institute of Hardware Technologies (IIHT), a net-centric technology training provider.

He said Sun will enter into strategic alliance with IIHT or similar training institutes in the country for the training centres. However, he refused to comment on its share holding pattern in the ventures.

According to Vivek, demand for Solaris' training programmes is increasing in the country with the rapid growth of Sun's Unix server deployment.

Entry of private Internet service providers has created additional demand for Solaris professionals, because 75 per cent of Web servers run on Sun servers worldwide, he claimed.

IIHT's chief executive officer Keshav Raju said the new centre will offer Solaris administration and network management courses. The tie-up makes IIHT the only information technology training organisation in India to provide the entire range of leading network operating systems.
