Trading Volumes At Rs 260.26 Crore

The wholesale debt market segment of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) witnessed transactions worth Rs 260.26 crore yesterday.
In the morning, security prices moved up with marked interest in the short- and medium-term papers. The prices went up yesterday but since the Reserve Bank announced the three-year auction, there could be some selling pressure, said a money market dealer with a private bank.

The treasury bills segment saw considerable trading interest.
The 364-day treasury bills maturing in April 1998 changed hands for Rs 35 crore at 9.35 per cent yield, while the 364-day treasury bills maturing in May 1998 were traded for Rs 10 crore at 9.35 per cent yield.
The securities which were in the limelight included the five-year 12.69 per cent government loan maturing in 2002, which was dealt for 35 crore at 12.57 per cent yield .
The corporate debentures segment was subdued and volumes were placed at Rs 44.38 lakh.
The call rates yesterday opened in the range of 6.25 per cent and 6.5 per cent, but went down to 5.75 per cent to 6 per cent, with stray transactions even being reported at 4.75 per cent.
