ADAG firm Reliance Communications (RCom) added 1.76 million wireless subscribers in October, taking its total mobile user base to 61.7 million, including both GSM and CDMA customers.
Reliance Communications, which is in the midst of rolling out its GSM services on an all-India basis, had earlier reported a 17.3 per cent rise in consolidated net profit for the second quarter ended September 30, 2008. Buoyed by a record number of subscriber addition, the company's net profit rose to Rs 1,531 crore as against Rs 1,305 crore in the year-ago period.
In the second quarter (July-September) the company added 5.3 million mobile users. Its revenues touched Rs 5,645 crore.
The mobile players added 10 million users in September. According to the COAI, GSM operators such as Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Essar, BSNL, Idea, MTNL and others added 7.7 million subscribers in October. India's mobile subscriber base currently stands at 310 million.
