Christian Taylor of the United States completed a superb hat-trick of World Championship triple jump titles here Sunday, surviving near elimination to take gold.
The 29-year-old two-time Olympic champion and now four-time world champion clinched gold with a leap of 17.92m.

A factory fire has killed 19 people in east China, local authorities said Monday, in the latest deadly incident to hit the country's industrial sector.
The fire broke out on Sunday at a factory in Ninghai county, eastern Zhejiang province, said the local government on its official Twitter-like Weibo account.
The incident, which is under investigation, occurred at a facility owned by the Ruiqi Daily Necessities Company.
Among eight people rescued from the fire, three were injured and sent to hospital for medical treatment, said Ninghai authorities.
It made for a deadly weekend in China ahead of the communist-led country's 70th-anniversary celebrations on Tuesday.

President Donald Trump said Sunday he wants to meet the anonymous whistleblower at the center of the scandal threatening his presidency.
Trump has been relatively quiet this weekend but in a series of evening tweets he also blasted Democratic lawmakers and the media as he railed against the impeachment inquiry launched last week.
That probe was triggered by the release of a rough transcript of a July phone call in which Trump asked the president of Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden, a potential Democratic candidate in the 2020 US election.
He also enlisted his attorney general and personal lawyer to help in that effort.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Sunday unveiled his financial policy ahead of elections next month, saying that if he retains power he will run a larger deficit to pay for campaign pledges.

Some 200 pro-government fighters were killed in Yemen and more than 1,000 taken prisoner in an August offensive near the Saudi border by the Iran-backed Huthi rebels, a loyalist source and the rebels said Sunday.
The Huthis, who are fighting a Saudi-led military coalition in Yemen's long-running conflict, had claimed a mass capture of Saudi forces in the offensive, but a press conference on Sunday was short on proof.
The three-day "large-scale" operation was launched on August 25, Huthi spokesman Yahya Saree said, showing footage purportedly of the attack near the southern Saudi region of Najran.
The Yemeni government source confirmed to AFP that some 200 soldiers were killed in the attack.

Algeria's army chief and de facto strongman on Sunday dubbed the sentencing of deposed president Abdelaziz Bouteflika's brother and several other ex-regime players to 15 years in jail "just punishment".

At least two migrants died on Sunday in a fire at a Greek island refugee camp,  with the blaze triggering rioting by angry residents.
Athens News Agency, quoting police sources, reported that a woman and a child had died in the blaze at the overcrowded Moira camp on the island of Lesbos.
The body of the woman was taken to the island's general hospital while the body of the child was handed over to authorities by migrants.
The fire inside the camp was extinguished by an airplane. But police later fired tear gas to control a crowd angered by the time it had taken, according to an AFP correspondent.
The death toll, however was unclear with an Afghan migrant eyewitness saying three people died in the blaze that spread to six or seven containers used to house residents.
"We found two children completely charred and a woman dead. We gave the children covered in blankets to the fire brigade," Fedouz, 15, told AFP.

Senegal's President Macky Sall has pardoned former Dakar mayor and political rival Khalifa Sall, who had  been sentenced to prison for fraudulent use of public funds, the presidency announced Sunday.
Khalifa Sall, no relation of the president, has been in jail since March 2017 and was sentenced to five years in prison in August 2018.
He was therefore barred from taking part in presidential elections in February.
The president has "totally annulled his sentences," said a presidential decree made public Sunday.
Khalifa Sall, 63, served as Dakar mayor from 2009 till 2018 when the president removed him from office, "I thank the head of state (Macky Sall) who had promised me this release," said Sowam Wardini, who took over as Dakar mayor from Khalifa Sall.
"Khalifa Sall is returning to his family today," he added.
Khalifa Sall was elected to parliament in 2017 but never got the chance to take his seat.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Sunday sent belated condolences to France following the death of former president Jacques Chirac, who passed away last week.

Turkey's air force on Sunday downed an unidentified drone on the Syrian border after it breached Turkish air space multiple times, the defence ministry said.
The drone, of unidentified nationality, detected near the border by the military intruded into Turkish airspace six times before it was shot down by war jets.
"An unmanned aerial vehicle which violated our air space six times (on Saturday)... was downed by two of our F-16s which took off from Incirlik" air base in southern Turkey, the defence ministry said, sharing pictures of the downed drone on its official Twitter account.

Five people were injured in a fire that broke out at a new high-speed train station in Saudi Arabia's western city of Jeddah on Sunday, state television reported, with huge palls of smoke seen rising into the air.
The station serves the main Haramain High Speed Rail system. The route opened to the public in October last year, taking passengers between Mecca and Medina, Islam's holiest sites.
"Five people who sustained minor injuries because of the fire were transported to hospital," Al-Ekhbariya state television reported.

Boeing left off "key safeguards" from the 737 MAX's anti-stall system that were included on an earlier version of the system used on a military tanker aircraft, the Wall Street Journal reported Sunday.
The model's MCAS anti-stall system has been implicated in two crashes that left a total of 346 people dead.
The earlier version of the system relied on multiple sensors and had "limited ability to move the tanker's nose," while the MAX's version received input from just one sensor and was "tougher for pilots to override," the newspaper said.
The Journal cited a person familiar with the system as saying the earlier version was designed to guard against problems.
"You don't want the solution to be worse than the initial problem," the person said.
A Boeing spokesman told the newspaper that the systems were "not directly comparable." In the MAX jets that crashed, pilots found themselves battling the system to keep the aircraft from diving into the ground.  Boeing is working on fixes to the .

A Polish climber died on Nepal's Mount Manaslu, the world's eighth highest peak, expedition organisers said Sunday -- the first fatality of the autumn climbing season.
More than 250 climbers are attempting to reach the summit of the 8,163-metre (26,781-feet) high mountain in Nepal.  The 50-year-old woman felt unwell during her climb and decided to descend from around Camp 4 at 7,450 metres (24,445 feet). She was found dead in the early hours Saturday at Camp 3, organisers said.
"She was helped down to Camp 3 after she complained of hypothermia but died yesterday morning," Thaneswor Guragai, of Seven Summit Treks, told AFP.
Guragai said they were trying to bring her body down.

The French government on Sunday slammed as "unacceptable" delays and cost overruns at nuclear power plant projects undertaken by state utility firm EDF, including Britain's controversial Hinkley Point.
Finance and Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire said an independent audit would be launched and warned that France's nuclear industry could not be a "state within a state".
Electricite de France (EDF) had said last week that costs for Hinkley Point C were now estimated at 21.5-22.5 billion pounds ($26.8-28.1 billion), a rise of 1.9-2.9 billion pounds over previous estimates.

France says nuclear plant overruns 'unacceptable'

At least one migrant died on Sunday after a fire broke out in Moria, the over-crowded refugee camp on the Greek island of Lesbos, Greece's Health Ministry said.
Police were firing tear gas to control crowds who started rioting after the fire ignited inside the camp, according to an AFP correspondent.
Additional officers were sent from Athens in C-130 army airplanes in a bid to contain the situation.
The fire has since been extinguished, but scuffles broke out as migrants tried to enter the camp's detention centre, Athens News Agency reported.
Migrants said they were angry over the time it took for the fire brigade to arrive, claiming the long delay had led to the death of a woman and two children.

At least one dead in Greek migrant camp blaze

A 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck in the Pacific off the coast of Chile on Sunday, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said.
"There is a low likelihood of casualties and damage," the USGS said of the quake, which it earlier reported as a magnitude 7.2, and which occurred 41 miles (66 kilometers) west-southwest of Constitucion, Chile.
"Overall, the population in this region resides in structures that are resistant to earthquake shaking, though vulnerable structures exist," it said.

Seventeen people, including a soldier, were killed in weekend attacks in the north of Burkina Faso, security sources said on Sunday.

On Saturday, about 20 men on motorcycles attacked the village of Komsilga in Bam province, killing nine people, security sources said. They also burned shops and two car tyres.

A third attack occurred on the same day in Deou in Soum province when a soldier was killed during an attack on an army unit, another security source said.
