The Purnia Lok Sabha Constituency in the state of Bihar is currently held by Santosh Kumar of the Janata Dal (United) (JDU). In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, Kumar beat Uday Singh Alias Pappu Singh of the Indian National Congress (INC) by receiving 54.85% of the votes cast in this constituency.
Purnia is one of the constituencies in 40-seat Bihar. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Purnia went to the polls on April 18, 2019, in Phase 2. It saw 65.38% of its registered electors turning out to vote, against 64.29% in the previous national elections held in 2014. Santosh Kumar defeated his nearest rival, Uday Singh Alias Pappu Singh, by a margin of 263461 votes. While Kumar received 54.85 votes, runner-up Uday Singh Alias Pappu Singh polled 32.02 votes.
At the time of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Purnia had 1,582,967 registered electors – 833,610 of them male and 749,357 female. The constituency had seen a 64.29% voter turnout. In 2014, the male voter turnout here was 61.36%, while 67.55% female voters turned out for voting. A total of 17 candidates had contested in this constituency. The participation of women candidates was 0.
