India has recorded its worst-ever spike of nearly 55,000 new coronavirus cases, since yesterday, surpassing 1.6 million-mark.
 
With this, India has recorded over 100,000 cases in just 48 hours. The country's death toll is over 35,000, overtaking Italy to have the fifth-most deaths due to coronavirus.
