The Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) 2025 continued at the Vishwanadh Sports Club in Vizag with two more exciting matches today. Hosts Telugu Titans sufferred thier second consecutive loss of the season as UP Yoddhas opens their season in style. In the second match of the night U Mumba kept hold of their nerves to beat Gujarat Giants in second tie-breaker of the season.
Match 1: Telugu Titans vs UP Yoddhas
The Pro Kabaddi League Season 12 got underway with high drama at the Vishwanadh Sports Club on Saturday, where the UP Yoddhas edged out hosts Telugu Titans 40-35 in a pulsating contest. The clash had everything — explosive raids, timely tackles, momentum swings, and a late fightback that kept the crowd on its toes.
The Titans began brightly through Vijay Malik, who picked up early points to give his side hope of a commanding start. But UP Yoddhas quickly found their rhythm, with Gagan Gowda and captain Sumit leading the charge. Gowda’s sharp raids and Sumit’s defensive authority put the Titans under pressure, as the Yoddhas inflicted the first All Out to surge ahead. By halftime, the visitors had carved out a healthy 21-13 lead, with Gowda already looking unstoppable.
The second half saw the Yoddhas tighten their grip when Sumit completed his High Five and Gowda crossed into Super 10 territory. At one stage, UP’s advantage stretched to 11 points, leaving the Titans in desperate need of inspiration. Malik responded with a series of multi-point raids to drag his side back into the contest, and the home team reduced the deficit with their only All Out of the match.
Just when it seemed the Titans might pull off a remarkable comeback, Gowda produced a decisive Super Raid in the dying minutes to shut the door. The Yoddhas ultimately held on to secure a five-point victory, sending a strong message in their opening outing of the season.
Match 2: U Mumba vs Gujarat Giants
U Mumba kicked off their Pro Kabaddi League Season 12 journey with a nail-biting victory over Gujarat Giants, edging past them 7-6 in a tie-breaker after the scores were locked at 29-29 at the end of regulation time in Vizag on Saturday.
The contest was fiercely fought right from the opening raid. Ajit Chouhan got U Mumba going, while Himanshu Singh replied in kind for Gujarat. Early on, defences took centre stage, with Lokesh Ghosliya and Rohit Raghav holding firm for Mumba, and Shubham Kumar producing key tackles for the Giants. A decisive ALL OUT midway through the first half swung momentum Gujarat’s way, as Himanshu Singh’s double raid gave them a four-point cushion. But U Mumba clawed back through a series of Super Tackles, reducing the deficit to just one point at halftime (16-15).
The second half followed a similar pattern of back-and-forth exchanges. Rohit Raghav struck early to level the scores, while Mohammadreza Shadloui and Harish Kamatchi helped the Giants maintain a slim lead. U Mumba, however, stayed in contention with critical interventions from their defenders. Contributions from Anil Mohan and Sandeep Kumar kept the scoreboard ticking, while Ajit Chouhan chipped in on both ends of the mat.
In the dying moments, Himanshu Singh’s Super Raid tied the game at 27-all, before the teams eventually ended 29-29, forcing a tie-breaker. Chouhan delivered again with a two-point raid, and the U Mumba defence held its nerve to seal a thrilling 6-5 tie-breaker win, marking a perfect start to their campaign.
