Recommendations have been sought from the investigating agencies, they said. There has been a 20 per cent increase in the number of walk-in OPD patients at the AIIMS here leading to long queues as the premier hospital's online appointment system remained shut for the eighth consecutive day on Wednesday following a cyber attack. Officials said the hospital authorities have deployed additional staff to manage the rush of patients. All hospital services, including outpatient and in-patient departments and laboratories, continue to run on manual mode. Hackers have allegedly demanded an estimated Rs 200 crore in cryptocurrency from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi as its server remained out of order for the sixth consecutive day, official sources said on Monday. It is feared that data of around 3-4 crore patients could have been compromised due to the breach detected Wednesday morning. Patient care services in emergency, outpatient, inpatient and laboratory wings are being managed manually as the server remained down, the sources said. The India Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN), Delhi Police and representatives of the Ministry of Home Affairs are investigating the ransomware attack. Sources said internet services at the premier medical institute have been blocked as per the recommendations of the investigating agencies. "Investigation into the incident and efforts to bring back the digital patient care services are progressing. Actions to prevent such attacks are being planned. We hope to be able to restore the affected activities soon," the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) said in a statement. The All India Institute of Medical Sciences has decided to promote the use of Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) ID for Out-Patient Department registration of new and follow-up cases. According to an office memorandum issued on November 15 this will entail adoption of 'scan and share QR code' solution of the National Health Authority in all OPDs at AllMS so as to facilitate quick registration and provide a registration queue number to the patient on arrival. To facilitate the creation of ABHA ID for patients who do not have a smartphone, dedicated counters and kiosks shall be operated from at least 7 am to 10 pm to promote creation of ABHA IDs, it has been decided. This project will be piloted in the new Rajkumar Amritkaur OPD with effect from November 21 and shall be taken up in a mission mode with effect from January 1, 2023 across all OPDs of AIIMS New Delhi. Former AIIMS director Dr Randeep Guleria has taken voluntary retirement after serving at the premier institute for more than 30 years. His five-and-a-half-year tenure as director of the institute ended on September 23 after which he had applied for VRS, which has been approved. Guleria was supposed to superannuate in April 2024. Guleria was one of the key persons leading the government's response during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic and played a major role in creating awareness about various aspects related to the pandemic. He joined AIIMS as assistant professor in the Department of Medicine in 1992 and then formed the Department of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine in 2011. He headed the department before taking over as AIIMS director for a five-year term on March 28, 2017. His tenure, which was to end on March 24, was extended by three months. Upon its completion, his term was extended by another three months.

With a view to streamline treatment facilities for MPs, AIIMS Delhi has come up with a set of standard operating procedures (SOPs) that include providing a nodal officer to coordinate and facilitate medical care arrangements. The move has, however, drawn sharp criticism from a section of doctors who have called out the "VIP culture" at the premier health institute. In a recent letter to YM Kandpal, joint secretary at the Lok Sabha Secretariat,AIIMS director M Srinivas has listed SOPs for the outpatient department (OPD), emergency consultation and in-patient hospitalisation of sitting MPs of both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. In the letter, Dr Srinivas has said duty officers from the department of hospital administration will be available at the AIIMS control room round-the-clock to coordinate and facilitate arrangements. BJP MLA Niladri Sekhar Dana appeared before the West Bengal CID on Tuesday morning for questioning in the alleged recruitment irregularities at AIIMS-Kalyani, a senior officer said. Dana, the MLA of Bankura, reached the CID office in Bhabani Bhaban in south Kolkata around 11 am, he said. The CID earlier questioned the BJP leader's daughter Maitri Dana, who was recruited at AIIMS-Kalyani. It is alleged that he used his influence for his daughter's recruitment at the hospital in Nadia district. The CID started the investigation after a complaint was filed by a job aspirant at the Kalyani police station.
