The Andhra Pradesh government late on Saturday night constituted a one-man Commission of Inquiry to probe into the circumstances that led to two incidents of stampede in which 11 persons were killed in recent days. The Commission of Inquiry (CoI) will be headed by Justice B Seshasayana Reddy, a retired judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, an order issued by Chief Secretary K S Jawahar Reddy said. The CoI has been asked to submit its report in a month. Eight persons were killed in a stampede at Kandukuru town in SPS Nellore district on December 28, 2022 during a political meeting of Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu. The Andhra Pradesh government has purchased 19 new SUVs for use by Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, official sources said. Of the 19 Toyota Fortuner vehicles, four will be made bullet-proof and two more will be fitted with jammers as part of the VIP security measures, sources in the Intelligence Security Wing said. With many ministers claiming that Reddy would soon start functioning from the port city of Visakhapatnam which the YSR Congress government wants to make the Executive Capital of the state half of the newly-procured fleet would be stationed there for the Chief Minister's use, the sources said. Power Finance Corporation has sanctioned a loan of Rs 3,940 crore for the construction of the Machilipatnam greenfield seaport, Lok Sabha MP V Balashowri said on Saturday. The loan sanction letter has been sent to Machilipatnam Port Development Corporation Ltd, the MP told reporters here. The estimated cost of the Machilipatnam port is Rs 5,253.89 crore. He said that the authorities have started work for acquiring land for the construction of road-cum-rail connectivity for Machilipatnam port. Andhra Pradesh government's revenue has touched Rs 25,928 crore in the first half of financial year 2022-23, the Chief Minister's Office said. This was 94.47 per cent of the targeted Rs 27,445 crore for the first half of the year, the CMO said in a release on Thursday, citing officials who took part in a review by Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on revenue earning departments. The release said Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection in the state was 28.79 per cent in the April-September period as against the national average of 27.8 per cent. It also quoted the officials as informing the Chief Minister that the state's revenue was "on track" and that they were taking steps to "plug the leaks". A couple of days ago, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) released the state accounts for the first five months of 2022-23, putting AP's tax revenue at Rs 43,499.73 crore. Though the state government announced it will distribute tabs to 4,59,564 students and 59,176 teachers in government and aided schools in September, "supply issues" are said to be pushing the delivery date further to December. The Andhra Pradesh government on Friday maintained that it owed no money to the power generators for electricity purchased through the power exchanges. Power System Operation Corporation Ltd (POSOCO), a Government of India enterprise, has asked three power exchanges -- IEX, PXIL and HPX -- to restrict electricity trading by 27 discoms in 13 states having outstanding dues towards gencos. AP was listed as one of the states that had outstanding amount to the gencos. AP Special Chief Secretary (Energy) K Vijayanand clarified here on Friday that the state power distribution companies did not owe any money to the gencos. "We have cleared all the Rs 350 crore due. It was only due to a communication gap that AP was probably showing as having an overdue," Vijayanand said. Over the past few months, the state has been purchasing about 40 million units of electricity per day through the power exchanges for meeting its needs, AP Transco sources said.
