Andhra Pradesh to install 1.8 million smart meters on farm motors in a year

The Andhra Pradesh government will install as many as 18 lakh smart meters on farm electric motors within a year, including spending Rs 4,000 core to procure allied material, said an official. The state will follow the guidelines issued by the Central Government and Central Electricity Authority (CEA), even as these smart meters are aimed at arresting power theft among several other benefits, he said. The official highlighted that farmers do not have any doubts over them and asserted that the government has received their stamp of approval. "Nearly 16.5 lakh farmers have extended support to smart meters and the government will bear the cost of installing them," K Vijayanand, special chief secretary, Energy Department, said in a statement on Tuesday night. He noted that the Centre will give a grant of Rs 1,600 crore for the smart meters and allied materials while a pilot project under this scheme tested in Srikakulam district had succeeded with only 6.6 per cent out of the 29,000 ..

Hetero to invest Rs 1,000 crore in AP in over 2 years to expand pharma biz

Drug maker Hetero Group will be investing Rs 1,000 crore to expand its pharmaceutical and specialist business in Andhra Pradesh, its Managaing Director Vamsi Krishna Bandi said on Saturday. Speaking at Global Investors Summit 2023 here, he said post-Covid pandemic, more countries are looking at India as a partner of choice in pharmaceutical sector, and Andhra Pradesh is ideally placed to take advantage because of a well-established ecosystem. "We are committed to Andhra Pradesh and will continue to expand our presence here. We'll be investing about Rs 1,000 crore in Andhra Pradesh over the next two years to grow our pharmaceutical and specialty business. This will generate an employment of a minimum of 3,000 people," he said. Bandi further said the USD 2.5 billion pharma group employs over 10,000 people directly and indirectly in Andhra Pradesh, and supplies about 40 per cent of global HIV medicines that are manufactured in the state.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday said the state has received investment proposals worth Rs 13 lakh crore with an employment opportunity for six lakh people. Speaking at the inaugural session of the Global Investors Summit 2023 being held here, the Chief Minister said MoUs worth Rs 11.85 lakh crore will be signed today and the rest would be formalised on Saturday. He also said the investment proposals are from Reliance, Adani Group, Aditya Birla group, ReNew power, NTPC and Aurobindo Group among others. Reddy reiterated that Visakhapatnam would become the executive capital of Andhra Pradesh in the days to come and he will be moving over to the port city. Andhra Pradesh govt appoints inquiry commission to probe recent stampedes

The Andhra Pradesh government late on Saturday night constituted a one-man Commission of Inquiry to probe into the circumstances that led to two incidents of stampede in which 11 persons were killed in recent days. The Commission of Inquiry (CoI) will be headed by Justice B Seshasayana Reddy, a retired judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, an order issued by Chief Secretary K S Jawahar Reddy said. The CoI has been asked to submit its report in a month. Eight persons were killed in a stampede at Kandukuru town in SPS Nellore district on December 28, 2022 during a political meeting of Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu. The Andhra Pradesh government has purchased 19 new SUVs for use by Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, official sources said. Of the 19 Toyota Fortuner vehicles, four will be made bullet-proof and two more will be fitted with jammers as part of the VIP security measures, sources in the Intelligence Security Wing said. PFC sanctions Rs 3,940 crore loan for Machilipatnam port in Andhra

Power Finance Corporation has sanctioned a loan of Rs 3,940 crore for the construction of the Machilipatnam greenfield seaport, Lok Sabha MP V Balashowri said on Saturday. The loan sanction letter has been sent to Machilipatnam Port Development Corporation Ltd, the MP told reporters here. The estimated cost of the Machilipatnam port is Rs 5,253.89 crore. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy will lay the foundation of Machilipatnam port works on December 21, he added. He said that the authorities have started work for acquiring land for the construction of road-cum-rail connectivity for Machilipatnam port. AP's revenue collection around Rs 26,000 cr in first half of 2022-23: CMO

Andhra Pradesh government's revenue has touched Rs 25,928 crore in the first half of financial year 2022-23, the Chief Minister's Office said. This was 94.47 per cent of the targeted Rs 27,445 crore for the first half of the year, the CMO said in a release on Thursday, citing officials who took part in a review by Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on revenue earning departments. The release said Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection in the state was 28.79 per cent in the April-September period as against the national average of 27.8 per cent. It also quoted the officials as informing the Chief Minister that the state's revenue was "on track" and that they were taking steps to "plug the leaks". A couple of days ago, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) released the state accounts for the first five months of 2022-23, putting AP's tax revenue at Rs 43,499.73 crore. Students and teachers of Class 8 will have to wait three more months to receive the tablet computers (tabs) promised by the Andhra Pradesh government.
