Senior officials met the Chief Minister and informed him that there are 100 Group - I and 900 Group - II vacancies in various departments. The Supreme Court has stayed an order of the National Green Tribunal imposing a penalty of Rs 100 crore on Andhra Pradesh for obtaining environmental clearance for the Avulapalli reservoir project in violation of environmental norms. A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and M M Sundresh said this would be subject to deposit of Rs 25 crore by the state government with the authorities within a period of eight weeks. "Issue notice, returnable in the month of October 2023. In the meanwhile, there will be stay of the direction given in the impugned judgment with regard to penalty/compensation, subject to the appellants depositing an amount of Rs.25 crore with the authorities within a period of eight weeks," the bench said. Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer on Monday called for an action plan to ensure cultivation of millets is taken up in different parts of the state. The Governor made these remarks while presiding over the 55th convocation of Acharya N G Ranga Agicultural University (ANGRAU) at Bapatla. Aimed at financially protecting chit fund companies' subscribers amid alleged scams, the Andhra Pradesh government on Monday introduced an electronic service delivery system, e-Chits' to regulate and usher in transparency in the sector. Commissioner and Inspector General, Registration and Stamps, V Ramakrishna said the initiative through which transactions can be done only online, will enable the registration department officials to verify subscribers and only then give approval. "This policy helps prevent fraud by chit fund companies and avoid loss to subscribers," Ramakrishna told PTI on Monday, adding that the app will also ensure that subscribers know which registered companies are operating in the chit fund business. The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to hear on May 17 a plea filed by the Andhra Pradesh government challenging an order of the National Green Tribunal which set aside environmental clearance granted to the Avulapalli reservoir in the state. A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices PS Narasimha and JB Pardiwala posted the matter after senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi mentioned the matter seeking urgent hearing. "We will list it day after tomorrow since it is a public project," the bench said. Rohatgi said this is an extraordinary case where the NGT has set aside the environmental clearance (EC) to the reservoir. The NGT on May 11 had set aside the EC given by the State-level Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) for the construction of the Avulapalli balancing reservoir. Andhra Pradesh will witness severe heat waves for the next three days, AP State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) managing director B R Ambedkar said on Saturday. On Sunday, 136 mandals will suffer severe heat waves and 153 mandals on Monday, the official said. The total liabilities of YSRC-led government in Andhra Pradesh rose at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12.6 percent till March 2023 to Rs 6.5 lakh crore as against the 21.8 percent CAGR during the TDP regime, said Special Secretary (Finance & Economic Affairs) to Chief Minister, Duvvuri Krishna on Thursday. He said the total liabilities of the state, including non-guaranteed liabilities was Rs 1.53 lakh crore as on date of state bifurcation, which shot up to Rs 4.1 lakh crore by the end of May, 2019 when the TDP demitted office. The outstanding liabilities have increased by 169 percent during the five-year TDP period. This translates to a CAGR of liabilities of 21.8 percent during 2014-19, said Krishna in a statement shared by the state government. Girls outperformed boys in Andhra Pradesh's Secondary School Certificate (SSC) or Class 10 examinations with an overall pass percentage of 72 per cent recorded in the state. Education Minister Botcha Satyanarayana announced the SSC results for academic year 2022-23 on Saturday that saw more than six lakh students appearing for it. Out of the total number of students who graduated, 69.2 per cent of boys cleared the examination, compared to 75.3 per cent girls, according to a state government release on Saturday. The pass percentage of girls is 6.1 per cent higher than boys. As many as 933 schools logged 100 per cent pass percentage while 38 registered zero pass percentage. Among the districts, Parvathipuram Manyam secured the top pass percentage of 87.4 per cent while Nandyala witnessed the lowest at 60.3 per cent.
The number of Andhra Pradesh expatriates who returned from strife-torn Sudan safely to India rose to 98, said Andhra Pradesh Non-Resident Telugu Society (APNRTS) chief executive P Hemalatha Rani on Friday. Out of the 98, 97 have returned to their hometowns while the remaining one person is expected to reach Vijayawada on Saturday.
