Kejriwal says Independent India made mistake, didn't focus on education

AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday launched his party's Make India No. 1' campaign, claiming the country made the mistake of not giving importance to education when it gained Independence. Beginning the campaign from his home district Hissar, he also accused the ruling BJP in Haryana and the state's previous Congress government of shutting government schools. He called it a very dangerous trend for the country. "The country should have focused on education. We should have focused on building good government schools in every nook and corner, every village and mohalla in war mode in 1947, the Delhi chief minister told reporters, pointing at the mistake made after Independence. After Haryana, the Aam Aadmi Party leader plans to visit other states as part of the new campaign. He is on a two-day trip to the state. The AAP often showcases Delhi government schools as an example that should be followed by other states, using its success in the national capital as part of its pitch when

More than 80% govt schools in country worse than junkyards: Kejriwal to PM

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleging that more than 80 per cent government schools in the country are worse than junkyards. Continuing from Tuesday when he had termed the prime minister's decision to modernise 14,500 schools "a drop of water in the ocean", Kejriwal again pushed for a plan to upgrade all 10 lakh government schools in the country. "In India, daily 27 crore students go to school daily, out of which 18 crore students go to government schools. The condition of 80 per cent government schools is worse than a junkyard. If we are giving such education to crores of our children, imagine how the country will be developed," Kejriwal said in his letter written in Hindi. "You have made a plan for the modernisation of 14,500 schools but if we work at this pace, it will take 100 years to upgrade all our government schools. I request you to prepare a plan for the redevelopment of all 10 lakh government run schools in the .

Gujarat: Shah inaugurates 4 'smart schools', takes swipe at AAP's promises

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday took a veiled swipe at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its leader Arvind Kejriwal by stating there are people who jump into the fray five months ahead of elections with a slew of promises unlike those who work hard for five years for the public before seeking their votes. At a function to inaugurate four 'smart schools' in Ahmedabad city, Shah praised the Gujarat model of primary public education and said if any state has to learn about a model regarding education, it should come to Gujarat. He also blamed the Congress governments of Gujarat of the past for leaving primary education in the state in a poor condition. After becoming chief minister, Narendra Modi took initiatives like 'Kanya Kelavani" and 'Gunotsav' to raise the enrolment ratio to 100 percent and also brought the dropout ratio to almost zero, Shah said. "Elections are near. There are two types of people. There are people who contest elections through a political party by sweating

Kejriwal govt silent on liquor scam, diverting public attention: Delhi BJP

The Delhi BJP on Saturday accused the AAP government of being silent on the alleged liquor scam and trying to divert public attention from the matter. No immediate reaction was available from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over the allegations. Addressing a press conference, Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta claimed the Arvind Kejriwal government is not answering the questions asked by the BJP and the people, and is indulging in all kind of "drama" to divert attention from the scam in Excise Policy 2021-22. "The recent special session of Delhi Assembly was nothing but an attempt by the AAP government to divert attention of people from the liquor scam. Not a single issue concerning people was discussed in the five day-session, he alleged. The Excise Policy 2021-22 was withdrawn by the city government in July following a CBI probe recommended by Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena. Delhi CM Kejriwal promises fixed salary for village heads in Gujarat

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday promised fixed salaries for village heads besides direct funds for panchayats if his party came to power in Gujarat. The Delhi chief minister, who arrived in the BJP-ruled state for a two-day campaign tour on Friday, was speaking at a conclave of sarpanchas (village heads) here. Elections are due in Gujarat by year-end. An AAP government will provide a salary of Rs 10,000 per month for the sarpanch and Rs 10 lakh for the village panchayat which would be transferred directly by the state government, Kejriwal said. Village Computer Entrepreneurs (VCEs) who work on commission basis will also get a salary of Rs 20,000, he added. "A sarpanch wins an election in his village and people like and respect him. Don't quit BJP but work for AAP internally: Kejriwal tells Gujarat workers

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday appealed to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers in Gujarat to work for his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) while staying in the ruling party. Kejriwal said BJP workers should continue to get "payment" from the BJP but work for AAP "from inside". Addressing a press conference in Rajkot on the final day of his two-day visit to poll-bound Gujarat, Kejriwal said BJP workers will benefit from all the "guarantees" promised by him to people when his party comes to power in the state. "We do not want BJP leaders. The BJP can keep its leaders. BJP's 'panna pramukhs', workers in villages, booths and talukas are joining us in droves. I would like to ask them what the BJP gave them in return for their service in the party even after so many years?" the AAP national convener asked. Kejriwal said the BJP did not offer free and quality education, healthcare and free electricity to BJP workers and their family members but AAP will care for their welfare. "Y

Kejriwal biggest U-turn leader in India, says BJP MP Tejasvi Surya

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Tejasvi Surya on Saturday termed AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal the "biggest U-turn leader" in the country and said his "revdi (freebies) and bevdi (drunk) politics" will be rejected by youngsters in Gujarat. The national president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of the BJP, also alleged that Kejriwal's politics lacks credibility and integrity. Addressing reporters shortly before Kejriwal's press conference in Rajkot city, Surya said the AAP leader's claims of good schools, mohalla clinics, and clean politics have been busted by the BJP in Delhi. He said the raid by CBI on Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was the "last nail in the coffin of Kejriwal's claims of clean politics." Kejriwal promises farm loan waiver if AAP voted to power in Gujarat

Announcing yet another pre-poll "guarantee" in Gujarat, Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said his party, if voted to power in the state, will waive farm loans and also create a mechanism to buy produce from farmers at Minimum Support Price (MSP). In his address to farmers at Dwarka town of Devbhumi Dwarka district, the Delhi Chief Minister also promised to conduct a fresh survey of land as farmers were unhappy with the survey conducted recently by the BJP government. "Though MSP is announced every year, farm produce is not sold at that price. It is my guarantee that our government will buy at MSP if farmers do not find any other buyer who is willing to buy their produce at MSP. We will start with five farm produce such as wheat and paddy, and then add more," said Kejriwal in his address. Without elaborating, the Delhi CM also promised loan waiver for Gujarat farmers under an AAP government. "I learnt that farmers in Gujarat get electricity at night to irrigate ..
