Bharatiya Adivasi Party to challenge BJP, Cong in Rajasthan's tribal belt

A new political outfit -- formed by tribal leaders following a split in the Bharatiya Tribal Party -- has thrown the gauntlet to the BJP and the Congress in Rajasthan's tribal belt, forcing senior leaders of the two national parties to make frequent visits in their attempts to shore up support ahead of the assembly polls. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, among others, have made several visits to the tribal region in an attempt to solidify their parties' support bases. Assembly elections in Rajasthan are due later this year. On Monday, Modi will visit Chittorgarh district, which has a sizable tribal population, and address a public rally. Deputy Leader of Opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly Satish Poonia laid focus on the region and made regular visits to the tribal areas during his tenure as the BJP's state unit chief. His successor CP Joshi, a Brahmin face, is the party's Lok Sabha MP from Chittorgarh. Banswara, Dungarp

Opposition leaders slam BJP over Bidhuri being given poll duty in Tonk

Opposition leaders on Thursday took a swipe at the BJP over the ruling party giving its Lok Sabha MP Ramesh Bidhuri, in the eye of a storm for his derogatory comments against BSP MP Danish Ali in Lok Sabha, poll responsibility in Rajasthan's Tonk district. In a post on X, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said, "Sabka saath, sabka vikas, sabka vishwas'yeh sab hai inka bakwaas." TMC MP Mahua Moitra also slammed the BJP and said Bidhuri had been "rewarded" for his remarks against a Muslim MP. "How does a showcaused person be given new role by @BJP4India? @narendramodi ji - is this your Sneha Yatra for minorities, your love outreach?" she said on X. With the Gurjar community present in large numbers in the Tonk district, which has four assembly seats including the one held by senior Congress leader Sachin Pilot, the BJP believes Bidhuri can help it swing the votes as he is also from the same caste. He also dared the Bharatiya Janata Party to give 33 per cent of tickets to women in the elections to assemblies and Lok Sabha if the party is serious about women's reservation. Will fight Rajasthan polls unitedly, high command will decide CM: Pilot

Congress leader Sachin Pilot on Friday stressed that the party would fight the Rajasthan assembly polls "unitedly" and said that a decision on who would lead the next government would be taken by the high command after consultations with the newly-elected MLAs. Exuding confidence that the Congress would buck the 'revolving door' trend in Rajasthan in the upcoming polls, the former deputy chief minister said the party is "absolutely united" with everyone's priority and efforts directed towards repeating the government in the desert state. In an exclusive interview with PTI ahead of the crucial Congress Working Committee meeting in Hyderabad, Pilot said the Congress has lived up to all the election promises it made in the 2018 Rajasthan polls and that is why he believes, the state government and the party working together, will be able to defeat the BJP. Asked about his assertion earlier that the party would go to the polls with collective leadership despite an incumbent CM in Ashok .
