Automobile retail sales in India rose 11 per cent in September as better supplies from manufacturers enabled dealers to ramp up customer deliveries amid the ongoing festive period, Federation Of Automobile Dealers Associations said on Tuesday. Last month, total retail sales stood at 14,64,001 units as compared to 13,19,647 units in September 2021. FADA noted that October is expected to witness even better overall sales due to the festive season further gathering steam. "Dealers anticipate this to be the best festive period in a decade for the passenger vehicle segment as we anticipate even higher sales during the month," it said. Retail sales of automobiles in India grew 8.31 per cent in August this year on the back of increase in registrations of vehicles across all major segments, automobile dealers' body FADA said on Thursday. As per data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), total vehicle retail sales in the country stood at 15,21,490 units last month as compared to 14,04,704 units in August 2021. Passenger vehicles (PV) retail sales stood at 2,74,448 units as compared to 2,57,672 units in the year-ago month, a growth of 6.51 per cent. Two-wheeler (2W) retail sales also grew by 8.52 per cent at 10,74,266 units in August 2022 as against 9,89,969 units in the same month last year, it added. FADA said the three-wheeler (3W) segment witnessed the highest growth rate last month posting 83.14 per cent increase at 56,313 units, up from 30,748 units in the same month a year ago. VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd on Thursday reported a 4.4 per cent growth in total sales at 5,003 units in August 2022. The company, a joint venture of the Volvo Group and Eicher Motors, had sold 4,793 units in the same month last year, VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV) said in a statement. Sales of Eicher branded trucks and buses were at 4,893 units last month as against 4,667 units in the year-ago period, a growth of 4.8 per cent. Domestic sales of Eicher trucks and buses stood at 4,530 units as compared to 3,864 units in August 2021, while exports were at 363 units, down from 803 units earlier. Volvo trucks and buses posted sales of 110 units in August 2022 as compared to 126 units in the same month last year, down 12.7 per cent, the company said.
Mahindra & Mahindra on Thursday reported an 87 per cent increase in domestic passenger vehicles sales at 29,852 units in August. The company had sold 15,973 units in the same month last year, M&M said in a regulatory filing. Sales of cars and vans were at 336 units in the month under review, up from 187 units in the year-ago month. In the commercial vehicles segment, the company said it sold 21,492 vehicles in August 2022, as against 8,814 units in the same month last year. M&M President, Automotive Division Veejay Nakra said the demand across the company's portfolio remained strong and new launches such as Scorpio-N, Scorpio Classic and new Bolero MaXX Pik-up also helped in driving growth. "The supply chain situation continues to remain dynamic for select product lines and we are taking appropriate actions to minimize impact," he added.
