Rajnath reviews preparations for Aero India; 731 exhibitors registered

The upcoming Aero India exhibition in Bengaluru will not only display the country's growing prowess in the aerospace sector but will also demonstrate the rise of a strong and self-reliant "New India", Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Tuesday. The 14th edition of Aero India, billed as Asia's largest aerospace exhibition, will be held in Bengaluru from February 13 to 17. Singh made the remarks while chairing a high-level meeting where he reviewed the preparations for the mega exhibition. Officials said 731 exhibitors have registered for the event so far. "The five-day event on the theme 'the runway to a billion opportunities' will be the largest-ever aero show organised at Air Force Station, Yelahanka in a total area of around 35,000 sq metres," the defence ministry said. It said Singh exhorted all the stakeholders to ensure "foolproof" arrangements for the participants. Mahindra Lifespace buys 4.25 acre land in B'luru to build housing project

Realty firm Mahindra Lifespace Developers Ltd on Friday said it has acquired 4.25 acre land in Bengaluru to develop a housing project and is expecting revenue of around Rs 400 crore from this property. The company expects to launch the first phase of the project within the calendar year 2023. In a regulatory filing, Mahindra Lifesapce, the real estate and infrastructure development arm of the Mahindra Group, informed that it has purchased 4.25 acres of land in Singasandra, South Bengaluru. The land is estimated to have a developable potential of around 4.6 lakh square feet of saleable area and a Gross Development Value (GDV) of about Rs 400 crore primarily comprising of premium residential apartments, it added. Aviation watchdog to seek report from SpiceJet on incident at Delhi airport

Aviation watchdog DGCA will seek a report from SpiceJet on an incident at Delhi airport this week where passengers of a Bengaluru-bound flight had to wait for a long time at the aerobridge. A passenger had shared on social media a video and his experience about co-passengers having had to wait for a long time at the aerobridge on Tuesday at the Delhi airport. It happened with passengers of SpiceJet flight SG 8133 from Delhi-Bengaluru. On Wednesday late evening, SpiceJet said the flight was delayed due to weather disruption that led to incoming crew exceeding their duty time limit. A senior DGCA official on Thursday told PTI that the regulator is looking into the incident and "will seek a report from the airline". In its statement on Wednesday, SpiceJet said the flight was delayed on account of weather disruption in the network and the aircraft's previous rotation. Case against NCC, 7 officials in connection with Metro structure collapse

A case has been registered against Nagarjuna Construction company (NCC), five of its officials and two of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) in connection with the collapse of an under-construction metro pillar here, which left a woman and her toddler son dead. NCC is named first accused (A1), followed by its officials. A BMRCL deputy chief engineer and executive engineer are A7 and A8 respectively, police sources said. Tejaswini (30) and Vihan died after a structure at 'Namma Metro' construction site fell on them at Nagawara on the ring road here on Tuesday morning.

Two killed in under-construction Metro pillar collapse in Bengaluru

A woman and her two-and-half year-old son were killed after an under-construction pillar of the "Namma Metro" (Bengaluru Metro) on Outer Ring Road near HBR Layout here collapsed, police said on Tuesday. According to police, the incident took place around 11 am, when the TMT bars erected for the construction of a pillar fell on their scooter. The height of the pillar is said to be over 40 feet and weighing several tonnes. The deceased were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital by the bystanders. Police said they have registered a case and investigation will follow. The incident had resulted in traffic jam for some time along the stretch.

AirAsia India's Pune-Bengaluru flight aborts take off at last minute

A Bengaluru-bound AirAsia India flight from Pune aborted take off at the last minute on Sunday due to a technical issue. The number of passengers on board the A320 aircraft was not known. AirAsia India in a statement confirmed that its Bengaluru flight from Pune returned to bay owing to a technical issue. "AirAsia India flight i5-1427 operating from Pune to Bengaluru cancelled take-off and returned to bay due to a technical reason," an AirAsia India spokesperson said in a statement. The spokesperson, however, did not share any other details. Earlier a passenger tweeted, "For some reason Air-Asia Pune-Bengaluru Airbus A-320 aircraft suddenly aborted t-off at Pune airport. After rolling on RWY 28 At almost 50knots the aircraft aborted take off and went back to the apron.

As floodwaters start receding, Bengaluru slowly returns to normalcy

Parts of Bengaluru that were battered by torrential rains for the last couple of days appeared to be slowly returning to normalcy with floodwaters by and large receding in some areas. According to official sources, most parts of the waterlogged roads have been cleared, while work is on for removing water in some of the worst hit areas that were inundated, amid some respite from rains. Traffic is almost returning to near-usual levels, and things may get back to normal very soon, they hoped.
