Japan's Honda, Hino join SoftBank-Toyota mobility venture

Japanese automakers Honda and Hino are joining a partnership between SoftBank and Toyota for mobility service innovation such as self-driving cars. Japanese technology company SoftBank Corp. and Toyota Motor Corp., the nation's top automaker, announced late last year a joint venture for mobility services, in what they called a "united Japan" effort to face global competition. Honda Motor Co., Toyota's rival, and Hino Motors, Toyota's truck division, said Thursday each company will acquire a 9.9 per cent stake in the USD 20 million Toyota-SoftBank venture Monet Technologies Corp. Each company invests USD 2.3 million, according to the companies. ITDC scouts for hotel chain operator to run Hotel Kalinga Ashok

The government is scouting for a hotel chain to operate and manage Hotel Kalinga Ashok in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The government-owned India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) currently operates a network of 5 Ashok Group hotels, including Hotel Kalinga Ashok in Odisha. "ITDC intends to do partnership with a reputed hotel chain operator to operate the property (Hotal Kalinga Ashok) for the period of 30 years. ITDC proposes to contract reputed hotel operators to manage the property on 'as-is-where-is' basis presently operative at lease hold land," ITDC said in the request-for-proposal (RFP) document. Interested bidders can submit their e-bids for the hotel by April 22. The scope of work of the bidder includes marketing the hotel property and providing all related services to the guests as per the standards of 3 stars or above. Gold futures weaken by Rs 41 per 10 gram

Gold prices were down by Rs 41 to Rs 31,975 per 10 gram in futures trade Thursday as speculators reduced exposure despite a firm trend in the precious metal overseas. At the Multi Commodity Exchange, gold for delivery in April traded lower by Rs 41, or 0.13 per cent, at Rs 31,975 per 10 gram in a business turnover of 4,663 lots. The gold for delivery in June also fell by Rs 48, or 0.15 per cent, to Rs 32,227 per 10 gram in a business turnover of 172 lots. Marketmen said the fall in gold prices at futures trade was mostly due to trimming of positions by participants. Globally, however, gold was trading 0.08 per cent higher at USD 1,310.91 an ounce in Singapore.

Fintech startups paving way for a financially smart India with global recognition

India has achieved the second spot globally with largest number of financial technology (fintech) startups, according to a report.The first spot was booked by the United States leading the list.With a total of over 2,000 fintech startups, 42 per cent of them are concentrated in Bengaluru and Mumbai followed by New Delhi, Gurugram and Hyderabad.Among all fintech startups, the ones who had maximum share were payment companies, lending, insurance and personal finance management startups. Tech, banking stocks lift Sensex by 197 points in early trading at 38,329

Equity benchmark indices traded in the green during morning session on Thursday with IT and banking stocks gaining ground.Among the early gainers were Infosys, TCS, HCL Tech, Yes Bank, Bank of Baroda and Punjab National Bank.At 11:15 am, the BSE S & P Sensex was up 197 points at 38,329 while the NSE Nifty 50 gained 66 points at 11,511.Shares of HCL Tech and Indiabulls Housing Finance gained nearly 3 per cent in the morning session while Yes Bank was up by 1.6 per cent. Direct tax collection falls short, CBDT raises alarm

The CBDT has rung alarm bells and has asked the Income Tax Department to go for a major assault as the direct tax collection target remains short of about 15 per cent, with the financial year closing less than a week away. On March 26, CBDT Member (Revenue) Neena Kumar shot off a letter to all the regional chiefs of the department stating that the tax collection figures have "been reviewed and it is seen that as against the budget collection target of Rs 12,00,000 crore, only 85.1 per cent of the target at Rs 10,21,251 crore has been collected as on March 23." The officer, who is responsible to supervise I-T department's tax collection work across the country, underlined the areas that are sluggish vis-a-vis direct tax collections obtained from personal, corporate and advance tax categories.
