Six Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security personnel in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district on Tuesday, police said. The gunfight broke out at around 10 am in the Indravati National Park area when a joint team of security personnel was out on anti-Naxalite operation based on inputs about the presence of senior Maoist cadres in the region, Bijapur Superintendent of Police Jitendra Yadav said. Personnel belonging to police's District Reserve Guard (DRG) from Bijapur and Dantewada districts and Special Task Force (STF) were involved in the operation, he said. Intermittent exchange of fire continued for several hours, the SP said, adding that during the search of the encounter site, the bodies of six Maoists with automatic weapons, including an INSAS rifle, sten guns, a .303 rifle and explosives, the official said. Sahara India's regional manager for Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh was arrested on Sunday from Bhopal in connection with an alleged cheating case registered in MP's Sehore district, an official said. According to a police statement, one Rajaram Rathore had filed a complaint in January 2023 against the company's MP-CG regional manager Shivaji Singh, their Sehore branch manager S K Magarde, cashier Yogendra Chaudhary and another employee for allegedly duping him over his deposits. Based on the complaint, the Kotwali police had registered a case under Indian Penal Code sections, including 420 (cheating), and the Madhya Pradesh Protection of Depositors' Interest Act, it added. Considering the seriousness of the case, Superintendent of Police Deepak Shukla directed City Superintendent of Police Abhinandana Sharma and Kotwali police station in-charge inspector Ravindra Yadav to form a team to trace the accused, the statement said. A teenage girl and two other persons were injured after a pressure improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Naxalites went off in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, police said on Monday. The incident took place on Sunday evening when the three persons, residents of Dhangol village under Madded police station limits, had gone to a nearby forest to collect mushrooms, a police official said. They inadvertently came in contact with the pressure IED, which exploded causing injuries to their legs and faces, he said. The three persons -- identified as Chidem Kanhaiya (24), Korse Santosh (26) and Kavita Kudiam (16) -- were shifted to Bijapur district hospital, he said. Naxalites often plant IEDs on dirt tracks to target security personnel, who use such routes during anti-Naxal operations inside forests. Civilians have fallen prey to such traps laid by Naxalities in the past in the Bastar region, which includes Bijapur district.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit a security camp and chair a meeting to review ongoing anti-Naxal operations in Chhattisgarh during his two-day trip to the state starting from June 22, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma said on Thursday. He will also lay foundation stones for a National Forensic Science University (NFSU) and a state forensic lab in Nava Raipur Atal Nagar on the first day of his visit (Sunday), Sharma told reporters here. The state government has allotted 40 acres of land for NFSU, which will be built by the Centre at a cost of around Rs 400 crore. The state forensic lab will come up adjacent to the NFSU campus on six to seven acres of land, said the Deputy CM, who holds the home portfolio. The 18000-page chargesheet names Shashank Chopda, director of Mokshit Corporation, and Basant Kumar Kaushik, Chhirod Rautia, Kamalkant Patanwar, Dr Anil Parsai and Deepak Kumar Bandhe, who were posted with the state-run Chhattisgarh Medical Services Corporation Ltd (CGMSCL) at the time, he added. "Kaushik was in charge general manager (equipment) and deputy manager (purchase and operations) of CGMSCL. Rautia and Bandhe were biomedical engineers.
