The ruling CPI(M) and opposition parties in Kerala on Saturday welcomed the Congress' victory in the Karnataka assembly polls, stating it was an indication of public sentiment against BJP's alleged divisive and communal politics. The CPI(M), IUML and the Congress also said the vote trend in Karnataka also shows the BJP's waning influence in south India. On the other hand, BJP leader and Union Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan put up a confident stance by saying that the party had lost in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh assembly polls in 2018 but won in all those states during the 2019 parliamentary elections. "So, you can analyse that. BJP has won and lost in elections. Loss in one election does not mean the end of the party," he contended. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan welcomed the outcome of the poll result and said the BJP has been ousted from south India. He also asked the Congress to learn from its mistakes and move forward. "With tod

Karnataka registered a "record" turnout of 73.19 per cent in the voting on May 10, to elect representatives to the 224 member Assembly
Most exit polls missed their mark in predicting an outright win for the Congress in the Karnataka assembly polls though some of them got that aspect right with only India Today-Axis My India forecasting the scale of win correctly. Interestingly, it was senior Congress leader DK Shivakumar whose prediction that the Congress would win at least 141 seats in an interview to PTI earlier this week was very close to the actual figure of 135 that his party has won. In the results declared Saturday, the Congress won 135 seats while the BJP ended up with 65. The JD(S), the third player in the contest, won 19 seats in the 224-member assembly, while two seats were won by Independents, two were won by regional parties. Counting was still on in one seat, where the Congress was leading. In its exit poll released after the voting on May 10, India Today-Axis My India predicted a clear majority for the Congress with 122-140 seats and gave the BJP 62-80 seats. It gave 20-25 seats to the JD(S). News .

Senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah on Saturday said the incoming government in Karnataka would not only give its stamp of approval for the five pre-poll guarantees announced by the party in the first cabinet meeting itself but also pass an order to this effect immediately. He also said the mandate given by the people is to give a pro-people administration and not for "enjoyment". "The five guarantees we have given will be approved in the first cabinet meeting and we will then pass an order," the former Chief Minister said addressing a press conference here. The Congress has promised to implement 'guarantees' 200 units of free power to all households (Gruha Jyoti), Rs 2,000 monthly assistance to the woman head of every family (Gruha Lakshmi), 10 kg of rice free to every member of a BPL household (Anna Bhagya), Rs 3,000 every month for graduate youth and Rs 1,500 for diploma holders (both in the age group of 18-25) for two years (YuvaNidhi), and free travel for women in public ...
The Congress' big win in the Karnataka assembly polls has come as a boost for Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge as it is also the first time in nearly four decades that the party has won in the home state of its president. The Congress would also take inspiration from history as it was from Karnataka that an embattled Indira Gandhi had revived her dwindling political future by winning a Lok Sabha bypoll from Chikmagalur. The Congress is facing a stiff electoral challenge from a rampaging BJP and the Karnataka poll win has come at a critical juncture for the grand old party with the Lok Sabha polls next year, but whether this victory would prove to be its "Chikmagalur moment", only time will tell. "It is an extraordinary result for the Congress party in Chikmagalur district which had become a BJP bastion of late. It won all 5 of the 5 seats there. In 1978, Chikmagalur heralded the revival of @INCIndia nationally by electing Indira Gandhi. History will soon repeat itself!" Congress ..

The Congress on Saturday hailed the Bharat Jodo Yatra for the party's success in the Karnataka assembly polls, having won 15 of the 20 assembly constituencies in the state the Rahul Gandhi-led foot march passed through. The opposition party also asserted that in the clash of narratives between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the yatra, the cross-country march emerged a "clear winner". The Congress is headed for a big win in Karnataka having already registered victories in 126 seats while leading in 10 more in the elections to the 224-member assembly. Party general secretary Jairam Ramesh, considered the brains behind the Bharat Jodo Yatra's execution besides Digvijaya Singh, tweeted an interesting aspect of the party's stellar performance in the Karnataka polls. Modi-Shah BJP's inability to replicate the Lok Sabha success in state polls, the importance of strong state leaders for Congress, and the terminal decline of JD (S) are also among key lessons
A loss in the only state in southern India where it held power indicates that the BJP and its brand of Hindu nationalism have not made a significant impact in the region
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday congratulated the Congress for its win in the Karnataka assembly polls and wished the party best in its endeavour to fulfilling people's aspirations. "I thank all those who have supported us in the Karnataka elections. I appreciate the hardwork of BJP Karyakartas. We shall serve Karnataka with even more vigour in the times to come," he said in another tweet. The Congress is headed to a big win as it won 121 seats and was leading in 15 more in the elections to the 224-member assembly.
AAP national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday congratulated the Congress for its victory in the Karnataka assembly elections, and said the BJP should now realise that its tactics do not work anymore. He, however, sought to downplay AAP's dismal performance in the elections, saying a time will come when it will win in Karnataka as well. According to the Election Commission website, AAP appeared to have drawn a blank, securing just 0.58 per cent of votes. Kejriwal hailed his party candidate Sushil Rinku's victory in the Jalandhar Lok Sabha bypoll in Punjab, terming it "historic and unprecedented". "Congratulations to them," the chief minister told reporters at the party headquarters here when asked to comment on the Congress' victory in the Karnataka elections. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday said the Congress won in Karnataka because some votes of the Janata Dal (Secular) got transferred to it, and the results would not have any repercussions in Maharashtra or elsewhere. Congress was headed for a comfortable majority in the BJP-ruled Karnataka as vote counting was on. "Karnataka election results will not have any impact nationally or in Maharashtra. The Modi government will come (to power again) nationally and the BJP-Shiv Sena in Maharashtra," Fadnavis told reporters here. Assembly elections are due in Maharashtra next year. The Janata Dal (Secular) lost a five percent vote share compared to 2018, and these votes got transferred to Congress which is why it won this time in the neighbouring state, the BJP leader further said. The BJP's vote share did not decrease, he added. "Some parties" think that they have won the country but there is a difference between Assembly elections and Lok Sabha elections, .
