Ongoing construction activities across Assam have created large-scale employment opportunities in the state, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said. He also said that youths, in search of employment, were migrating to other states owing to lack of requisite skills, and taking up low-paying jobs there. The chief minister was speaking at the inauguration of a skill training centre at Gogamukh in Dhemaji district on Wednesday. He stressed on the need for the state's youths to get trained in new-age and modern technical work, so that they can equip themselves for remunerative job opportunities available across the country as well as abroad. A team of "selectors" from Israel visited India last week and another senior delegation will leave for India next week to start the process of recruiting thousands of workers to be brought to the country to fill in the acute shortage faced by its construction industry, a senior executive at the Israel Builders Association said on Wednesday. "We will start the process in Delhi and Chennai next week on December 27. At the moment we are looking to bring in 10,000 as per government approvals and this will scale up to 30,000 in the near future depending on how it goes. It is an ongoing exercise and will take months," Deputy Director General and Spokesperson for the Israel Builders Association (IBA), Shay Pauzner, told PTI. State-owned NBCC has bagged a Rs 1,500 crore project management consultancy contract for construction of 1,469 warehouses and other infrastructure related to the agriculture sector. In a regulatory filing, NBCC said it has bagged the work order from National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) and Primary Agriculture Cooperative Society (PACS) in various states. The cope of work is "construction of 1,469 nos. warehouses and other agri infrastructure under the World's Largest Grain Storage Plan in cooperative sector at various locations across India", it said. The revenue for the domestic construction equipment sector is expected to grow by 1415 per cent in FY24 on the back of the government's focus on infrastructure, Crisil Ratings said on Friday. Construction activity across the real estate and mining sectors will also play a supportive role, it said. "Revenue for the domestic construction equipment sector is likely to grow 1415 per cent this fiscal on a high base of 29 per cent in the previous fiscal. This will be driven by continued government focus on infrastructure build-out, especially roads, metros, and railways, including projects under the National Infrastructure Pipeline (NIP)," the agency said in a statement. The increased pace of road construction, which accounts for 40 per cent of the demand for construction equipment, augurs well for the sector's growth. Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai on Monday directed officials to take strict action against construction agencies found violating anti-dust norms at Sarai Kale Khan here. As part of the Delhi government's anti-dust campaign, Rai inspected several construction sites in the area and found they did not have a working anti-smog gun, water sprinklers and tin sheds to prevent dust pollution. The minister directed the Delhi Pollution Control Committee to issue notice to the project proponents concerned. He said a penalty will be imposed on the violators if they fail to submit a satisfactory reply within 24 hours. The introduction of the PLI scheme will provide a level-playing field for the players of the industry, Dimitrov Krishnan, President of industry body ICEMA, said. Indian Construction Equipment Manufacturers' Association (ICEMA) engages with stakeholders and the government to identify challenges in the sector and works on solutions. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday asked the construction and equipment industry to reduce their fuel cost by using alternative fuels like ethanol and methanol. The Minister for Road Transport and Highways was speaking at the annual session of the Indian Construction and Equipment Manufacturers Association (ICEMA) here. "You can bring down your cost by 15-20 per cent by usage of methanol which comes at Rs 25 a litre. This will reduce your overall cost," Gadkari said. He also said that in a road construction project of Rs 1000 crore, around Rs 100 crore is spent towards diesel. This can be brought down if the construction equipment industry starts usage of alternative fuels like ethanol and methanol, he said and added that it will also help in reducing pollution. The industry has a vital role to play as infrastructure and construction activities will continue to grow as part of the government's thrust on development, he noted.

Leading construction machinery major Tata Hitachi was aiming at 15-20 per cent rise in revenue in the current fiscal, a top company official said. The company had clocked a revenue of close to Rs 4,000 crore during FY'22.
