West Bengal's coronavirus tally increased to 20,79,491 on Thursday after 2,486 more people tested positive for the infection, the state health department said. Six more deaths due to the disease also raised the toll to 21,300 during the day. The state had on Wednesday recorded 2,455 new Covid-19 cases and six fresh fatalities. Altogether 3,124 patients recovered from the infection in the state on Thursday taking the total number of cured people to 20,30,436, the department said in a bulletin. The number of active cases now is 27,755. West Bengal tested 15,311 samples for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, the bulletin added.
Delhi on Thursday logged 649 COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 4.06 per cent and one death, according to data shared by the city health department. With this, the national capital's COVID-19 case tally climbed to 19,46,313. The death toll rose to 26,297, the latest bulletin stated. The number of active cases in Delhi stands at 2,209, up from 2,153 the previous day. As many as 1,454 patients are under home isolation, it said. Mumbai on Thursday logged 273 COVID-19 cases and one death, which took the tally to 11,22,109 and the toll to 19,636, a civic official said. The addition to the tally remained below the 300-mark for the sixth day in a row, he added. The recovery count increased by 338 during the day to touch 11,00536, leaving the metropolis with an active caseload of 1,937, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation official said. Of the new cases, only 26 are symptomatic, he pointed out. Civic data showed the number of samples examined during the day was 10,058, almost 800 less than the previous day. It revealed that the total number of coronavirus tests in Mumbai had now gone up to 1,77,33,634. The state had reported 2,243 cases and six fatalities on the previous day. The positivity rate stood at 15.47 per cent as 15,870 samples were tested for COVID-19. The state now has 28,399 active cases, while 20,27,312 people have recovered from the disease so far, including 3,019 in the last 24 hours, it added.

Pharmaceutical major Bharat Biotech on Wednesday said its COVID-19 vaccine Covaxin has proven to be safe, well-tolerated, and immunogenic in subjects in controlled clinical trials. The study has been accepted and published in Nature Scientific Reports, a high impact factor journal. A press release from the vaccine maker said the study was conducted in 184 subjects, who were randomised 1:1 and received either a booster dose of Covaxin or a placebo, six months after the primary series of two doses. Karnataka on Monday clocked 1,108 fresh COVID-19 cases and zero fatalities, taking the total caseload to 39,87,428, the health department said. The day also saw 997 people being discharged, taking the total number of recoveries to 39,39,617. Active cases stood at 7,680, a health department bulletin said. Bengaluru Urban accounted for the maximum number of 993 cases. There were 11 cases in Ballari, 15 in Dakshina Kannada, 25 in Mysuru and 12 in Kolar. The bulletin said nine districts in the state reported zero infections and nil deaths. A total of 16,256 samples were tested in the state including 12,653 using RT-PCR methods, taking the cumulative number of specimens examined to 6.74 crore. The number of vaccinations done in the state rose to 11.39 crore, with 1,61,773 people being inoculated on Monday, it said.

West Bengal on Sunday logged 2,659 fresh Covid-19 infections, down from 2,839 the previous day, pushing the caseload to 20,70,858, the health department said in a bulletin. Five more deaths due to the disease raised the toll to 21,276, the bulletin said. Altogether 20,18,791 people have recovered from the disease in the state, 2,476 of them since Saturday. Bengal currently has 30,791 active cases, with 544 of them undergoing treatment in various hospitals. The positivity rate stood at 17.16 per cent and the fatality rate at 1.03 per cent. As many as 2,57,97,505 samples have been tested in the state thus far, including 15,492 since Saturday.
