Gujarat on Sunday reported 644 COVID-19 cases, which took the tally to 12,42,731, while the death toll remained unchanged at 10,954, a state health department official said. The recovery count rose by 500 and reached 12,27,001, which left the state with an active caseload of 4,776, he added. Ahmedabad led with 272 cases, followed by 90 in Surat, 46 in Vadodara, 36 in Mehsana, 32 in Bhavnagar, among other districts, the official said. The number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the state went up by 45,912 during the day to touch 11.24 crore, a government release said. No new case or recovery was reported from adjoining Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, leaving the Union Territory with an active caseload of 11, local officials said. Mumbai on Sunday reported 276 COVID-19 cases at a positivity rate of 2.59 per cent and two fatalities, taking the tally to 11,21,095 and the toll to 19,632, a civic official said. A day earlier, the metropolis had logged 365 cases and two deaths due to COVID-19, he said. Of the 376 new cases, only 24 were symptomatic, the official added. The recovery count rose by 397 to reach 10,99,163, which left the city with an active caseload of 2,300, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation official said. He said the overall number of coronavirus tests in the city stood at 1,76,98,650, including 10,656 in the last 24 hours, down from 11,442 in the preceding 24-hour period. Civic data revealed the recovery rate was 98 per cent and the overall growth rate of cases between July 10 and 16 was 0.03 per cent. It showed that the caseload doubling time in the metropolis now stood at 2,279 days.
Maharashtra on Sunday reported 2,186 new coronavirus positive cases and three deaths linked to the infection, the health department said. With this, the caseload in the state rose to 80,19,391 and the death toll to 1,48,026. On Saturday, the state had reported 2,382 cases and eight fatalities. There are now 15,525 active cases of the infection in the state. Eighteen patients were found infected with the BA.5 sub-variant of Omicron, 17 others with the BA.2.75 variant, and one with BA.4 variant as per the latest report from the B J Medical College in Pune, it said. West Bengal on Friday reported 3,067 COVID-19 cases, which pushed the tally to 20,65,360, the health department said in a bulletin on Friday. North 24 Parganas registered 693 infections followed by Kolkata at 653. Five more deaths due to the disease raised the toll to 21,265, the bulletin said. The number of active cases rose by 1,187 to 30,043 Altogether 20,14,052 people have recovered from the disease, 1,875 of them since Thursday. The positivity rate stood at 19.54 per cent. Odisha recorded 1,043 new COVID-19 infections on Friday, the highest single-day tally in five months, taking the caseload to 12,97,175, the health department said in a bulletin. The state had on February 13 registered 1,148 cases. The toll mounted to 9,128 after an 82-year-old man died of the disease in Sundargarh, it said. Odisha currently has 4,825 active cases, while 12,83,169 patients have recovered from the disease so far, including 479 since Thursday, it added. Besides, 53 patients have died due to comorbidities so far. Single-day count has more than doubled since 470 cases on July 8. The positivity rate jumped to 5.59 per cent from 4.18 per cent a day ago with the new cases having been detected after testing 18,664 samples. As many as 100 children were among the new patients, the bulletin said. Khurda, where state capital Bhubaneswar is situated, reported the highest number of new cases at 335, followed by 205 in Cuttack and 106 in Sundargarh, it added.

Mumbai on Thursday recorded 339 fresh coronavirus cases, while two more patients succumbed to the infection, the city's civic body said. With these additions, the city's overall COVID-19 tally rose to 11,20,172, while the death toll increased to 19,627, said the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in a health bulletin. On Wednesday, the metropolis recorded 383 positive cases and one coronavirus-linked fatality. Of the 339 new cases, 310 patients were asymptomatic, said the bulletin. Giving details about the two fresh fatalities, the BMC said one of them was an 83-year-old woman suffering from comorbidities, diabetes, hypertension and ischemic heart disease. The second was a 40-year-old woman with comorbidities, hypertension and malignancy.
