Telangana logs 516 new Covid-19 cases, total tally reaches 801,922

Telangana on Saturday recorded 516 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the overall tally to 8,01,922 so far. Hyderabad district registered the highest number of cases with 261. A health department bulletin said 434 people recuperated from the infection and the cumulative number of recoveries till date was 7,93,027. The recovery rate declined to 98.89 per cent. No fresh fatality occurred due to the infectious disease and the death toll remained at 4,111. The bulletin said 26,976 samples were tested today. The number of active cases rose to 4,784, it said.

Bengal logs 1,524 new Covid cases, positivity rate jumps to 12.89%

West Bengal reported over 1,000 fresh COVID-19 cases for the second consecutive day on Thursday, as 1,524 more infections pushed the tally to 20,29,425, the health department said. The death count rose to 21,219 with one new fatality, it said. On Wednesday, 1,424 single-day cases were registered. The state now has 6,994 active cases, while 20,01,212 people have recovered from the disease so far. Since Wednesday, West Bengal has tested 11,827 samples. The positivity rate stood at 12.89 per cent. Meanwhile, the health department issued an advisory, stating that "only asymptomatic and fully vaccinated people should preferably attend public gatherings following Covid-appropriate behaviour". Special emphasis should be given on completion of primary vaccination and precaution dose administration, it said, adding, door-to-door campaigns, if required, must be organised for the same. Delhi records new 865 Covid cases, zero fatality in 24 hrs; TPR at 4.45%

Delhi recorded 865 COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 4.45 per cent and zero fatality, according to data shared by the health department here on Thursday. With the fresh infections, Delhi's case tally climbed to 19,34,874. The death toll stood at 26,261. The city on Wednesday had logged 1,109 COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 5.87 per cent and one fatality, according to the health department. The fresh cases were detected out of 19,435 tests conducted the previous day. On Tuesday, Delhi had recorded 874 fresh COVID-19 cases and four fatalities due to the infection, while the positivity rate was at 5.18 per cent.

Maharashtra logs 3,640 new Covid cases, 3 deaths; active tally at 24,940

Maharashtra on Thursday recorded 3,640 fresh coronavirus cases and three fatalities linked to the infection, the state health department said. With these additions, the state's overall COVID-19 tally rose to 79,76,114, while the death toll increased to 1,47,925, said the department in a bulletin. On Wednesday, the state had recorded 3,957 cases and seven deaths. Mumbai recorded 1,265 cases and one fatality. One death each was registered in Ahmednagar city and Kolhapur district, the bulletin said. The state's case fatality rate stood at 1.85 per cent. Also, 4,432 patients recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours, taking their cumulative count to 78,03,249 and leaving the state with 24,940 active cases, the department said. The coronavirus recovery rate in the state stood at 97.83 per cent, it said. Covid-19 cases rising nearly everywhere in the world, says WHO

The number of new coronavirus cases rose by 18 per cent in the last week, with more than 4.1 million cases reported globally, according to the World Health Organisation. The UN health agency said in its latest weekly report on the pandemic that the worldwide number of deaths remained relatively similar to the week before, at about 8,500. COVID-related deaths increased in three regions: the Middle East, Southeast Asia and the Americas. The biggest weekly rise in new COVID-19 cases was seen in the Middle East, where they increased by 47 per cent, according to the report released late Wednesday. Infections rose by about 32 per cent in Europe and Southeast Asia, and by about 14 per cent in the Americas, WHO said. Gujarat logs over 500 new Covid cases after 4 months; active tally at 2,914

Gujarat's daily COVID-19 tally crossed the 500-mark, after 529 people tested positive for the infection on Wednesday, an official from the state health department said. With the addition of the latest cases, the tally of infections in the state has risen to 12,31,483, he said. As many as 408 patients were discharged from hospitals, taking the count of recoveries to 12,17,623, while the toll remained unchanged at 10,946, the official said. The state's daily tally crossed the 500-mark in February, with 617 cases being detected on February 18. The state is currently left with 2,914 active cases, with two patients on ventilator support, he said. Of the latest cases, Ahmedabad reported 226 new COVID-19 cases, the highest in the state, followed by Surat with 99, Vadodara 59, Valsad 20 and Kutch 13, among others.
