2010 CWG case: Kalmadi supporters celebrate court nod to ED closure report

A section of Congress workers on Tuesday distributed sweets outside former Union minister Suresh Kalmadi's residence here, a day after a Delhi court accepted the ED's closure report in the 2010 Commonwealth Games-related alleged money laundering case against him. While there was no immediate reaction from Kalmadi or his family members over the court's decision, his followers said the court's acceptance of the closure report shows that Kalmadi was not involved in any wrongdoing. Australia hoping to send more than 400 athletes, officials to Glasgow CWG

Relieved that the 2026 Commonwealth Games will finally be taking place in Scotland after its own state Victoria's shock pull-out, Australia's governing body for Commonwealth sport on Tuesday made a forecast of "more than 400 athletes and officials" participating in the heavily pruned multi-sport event. Commonwealth Games Australia (CGA) welcomed the Commonwealth Games Federation's (CGF) announcement that Glasgow will host the 2026 CWG, despite pruning the roster to 10 disciplines to keep the event budget-friendly and free of "operational risks". Several major sports like hockey, shooting, wrestling and badminton were dropped in a bid to limit the cost and streamline logistics given that only four venues will host the entire showpiece. CWG Meet: India makes a strong case for inclusion of wrestling, kabaddi

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on Sunday made a strong case for the inclusion of archery, wrestling and kabaddi as regular sports in Commonwealth Games roster at CGF's Asia and Oceania regional meet.
