A Delhi court on Monday sought response from the city police on an application of Indian Mujahideen founder Yasin Bhatkal, accused of conspiring to wage war against India, seeking custody parole. Bhatkal, currently lodged in Tihar Central Jail here, has requested custody parole to meet his ailing mother, claiming that she recently underwent cardiac surgery. Additional Sessions Judge Chander Jit Singh directed Special Cell of Delhi Police to file its response by Tuesday. Bhatkal is accused in several cases of terrorism, including one related to conspiring to wage war against India in 2012 and another in connection to the September 2008 serial blasts in Delhi that claimed 26 lives and left 135 people injured.

Forty years after the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, a Delhi court on Friday framed charges for murder and other offences against Congress leader Jagdish Tytler in a case related to the killing of three people in north Delhi's Pul Bangash area. Special Judge Rakesh Siyal directed that Tytler face trial after he pleaded not guilty to the offences. Besides murder, the court ordered framing of charges for several other offences, including unlawful assembly, rioting, promoting enmity between different groups, house trespass and theft. The judge had on August 30 said there was sufficient ground to proceed against the accused. The CBI had on May 20, 2023 filed a charge sheet against Tytler in the case. A Delhi court on Wednesday granted bail to AAP leader Durgesh Pathak in a corruption case related to the alleged excise scam, being probed by the CBI. Special Judge Kaveri Baweja also extended the judicial custody of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal till September 25 in the case. The judge passed the order after the accused appeared before the court in pursuance to its earlier order. The judge had on September 3 taken cognisance of the charge sheet against Kejriwal, Pathak and others, saying there was sufficient evidence to proceed against them. A court here on Tuesday issued the release order of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's aide Bibhav Kumar on a personal bail bond and surety of Rs 1 lakh each, a day after the Supreme Court granted him bail in the Swati Maliwal assault case. The court also imposed other conditions on bail including that Kumar will not threaten witnesses and tamper with evidence. He will also have to attend court proceedings regularly. BRS leader K Kavitha, who was arrested in March this year, walked out of Tihar Jail here late Tuesday evening, hours after the Supreme Court granted her bail in corruption and money laundering cases linked to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam. A Delhi court is likely to pass on August 30 an order on whether to frame the charges against Congress leader Jagdish Tytler in a case related to the killing of three people at Pul Bangash during the 1984-anti Sikh riots. Special CBI judge Rakesh Siyal on Friday reserved the order after getting some clarifications from the parties. "There are no further clarifications required. I am reserving the order for August 30," the judge said. In its charge sheet filed in May 2023, the CBI had accused Tytler, a former union minister, of inciting, instigating and provoking the mob which had assembled near the Pul Bangash gurdwara on November 1, 1984. A court here on Monday suspended the sentence of five months' simple imprisonment awarded to Narmada Bachao Andolan leader Medha Patkar in a defamation case filed against her by Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena 23 years ago, when he headed an NGO in Gujarat. On an appeal filed by Patkar, Metropolitan Magistrate Raghav Sharma suspended the sentence and also issued a notice to the opposite party (LG), Saxena's counsel Gajinder Kumar said. The court also granted bail to Patkar on a bail bond and surety bond of Rs 25,000, he said. Kumar, who received the notice, said a reply has to be filed before the next date of hearing in the matter on September 4. The court had sentenced Patkar to jail on July 1.
