Delhi CM attack: Second accused arrested in Rekha Gupta assault case

The Delhi Police on Sunday arrested another person in connection with the assault on Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, officials said. The accused has been identified as Tahseen Syed, a friend of prime accused Sakriya Rajeshbhai Khimji, they said. On Wednesday, CM Gupta was attacked during a public hearing at her Civil Lines camp office. Khimji (41), an autorickshaw driver, was arrested in connection with the attack. Tahseen was brought from Gujarat's Rajkot to the capital on Friday night for questioning and was arrested today, they said.

Moderate showers trigger traffic jams in Delhi, city under yellow alert

The national capital on Sunday afternoon received moderate rainfall causing traffic snarls in some parts of the city, officials said. Areas including Preet Vihar, Rajeev Chowk, ITO, Jafarpur, India Gate, Akshardham, Safdarjung and Lodi Road, recorded showers, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed. Nehru Stadium, Defence Colony, Lajpat Nagar, Kalkaji, Ayanagar and Deramandi also logged rainfall, it added.0 Traffic jams were seen in ITO, Lajpat Nagar and Connaught Place. Earlier in the day, Delhi recorded 36 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am. The minimum temperature settled at 23.4 degrees Celsius, three notches below the season's average, while the maximum is expected to hover around 31 degrees Celsius, the IMD said. Satish Golcha named new Delhi police commissioner day after attack on CM

Senior IPS officer Satish Golcha has been appointed as the 26th Commissioner of Delhi Police, according to an order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday. The 1992-batch IPS officer has replaced SBK Singh who took up additional charge as Commissioner on July 31 after his predecessor Sanjay Arora's retirement. Golcha is currently the Director General of Tihar Jail, a charge he assumed on May 1, 2024. The senior IPS officer has held important positions, including Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Special Commissioner (Intelligence) in Delhi Police and Director General of Police (DGP) of Arunachal Pradesh. Man accused of attacking Delhi CM Rekha Gupta sent to 5-day police custody

The man accused of attacking Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during a 'Jan Sunwai' programme at her Camp Office in Civil Lines on Wednesday has been sent to five days of police custody, court sources said. They said the accused, Sakriya Rajeshbhai Khimjibhai (41), was produced at the house of a magistrate in southwest Delhi's Dwarka late at night. The accused was not produced before any magistrate in the Tis Hazari court premises, sources said. Police have registered a case against the accused, a resident of Rajkot (Gujarat) under Section 109(1) (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). He has also been booked for allegedly assaulting and obstructing public servant from discharging his duty. At least 3 workers killed in building collapse in Delhi's Daryaganj

Three workers died after a building collapsed near Sadbhavna Park in central Delhi's Daryaganj on Wednesday, an official said. A building collapsed near Sadbhavna Park where three workers, including Zubair, Gulsagar and Taufiq, on the site were killed on the spot, he said. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Nidhin Valsan said that the injured have been moved to the LNJP Hospital. "Civic authorities, including DDMA, have been informed and rescue efforts are underway. Legal action will be taken after verification of facts," he added. An information about the incident was received at 12.14 pm following which four fire tenders were rushed to the spot where a building, consisting of ground and two floors, collapsed, a Delhi Fire Services (DFS) official said. Three persons were rescued from the debris and immediately taken to hospital, he said. Rescue operations were underway till last reports came in. The cause of the collapse is yet to be ascertained, officials added.

Yamuna flowing below danger mark, govt keeping close watch: CM Rekha Gupta

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the Yamuna was flowing below the danger mark on Wednesday morning and said that the government is keeping a close watch on the situation. The water level in the Yamuna at 6 am was 204.76 metre at Old Railway Bridge (ORB), below the danger mark, she said in a post on X. The danger mark of water in the river is 205.33 metre. The flood water had started receding in the river from Tuesday. The satisfactory thing is that the water level is munch lower than the danger mark. Exit discharge is higher than the inlet, she said. "Rest assured the situation is fully under control. Our monitoring and management system is active round the clock and close watch is being maintained on every situation," she said. There was 31,016 Cusecs discharge from Hathnikund barrage, while 41,200 Cusecs from the Wazirabad barrage, she said.

Delhi rolls out 'Delhi Mitra' mobile app for unified grievance redressal

Delhi government on Tuesday announced the launch of the "Delhi Mitra" app, enabling people across the city to register their grievances with various departments and agencies. The decision was made in a cabinet meeting chaired by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. After the meeting, Gupta posted on X that for a more effective redressal of public grievances, a single-window system will now be implemented, bringing the Delhi government, Delhi Police, DDA, MCD, NDMC, and Delhi Cantt on a single platform. No flood-like situation in Delhi, Yamuna water level will recede soon: CM

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday asserted that there is no flood-like situation in the city and that Yamuna water level will recede in a couple of days. The Yamuna in Delhi crossed the danger level, reaching the mark of 205.36 metres at 2 pm on Monday at the Old Railway Bridge, officials informed. The warning mark for the river in the city is 204.50 metres, while the danger mark is 205.33 metres, and evacuation of people starts at 206 metres. DDA's land licensing model bags ₹10,000 cr deal with Fleur Hotels

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has awarded the first project under its new Special License Property (SLP) initiative to Fleur Hotels, a subsidiary of Lemon Tree Hotels, officials said on Saturday. The project is expected to generate approximately Rs 10,000 crore over a 55-year period. "DDA had invited bids through a Request for Proposal (RFP) issued on May 2, 2025, for a 2-acre land parcel in Nehru Place earmarked for a five-star hotel. The bidding process, conducted on August 13, saw Fleur Hotels secure the project with an annual license fee offer of Rs 27.19 crore, about 50 per cent higher than the reserve price of Rs 18 crore," DDA said in a statement. This marks a major shift in DDA's land disposal policy. Delhi Police files case in collapse of dargah structure near Humayun's Tomb

The Delhi Police has registered a case after six people were killed in a wall and roof collapse of a dargah near Humayun's Tomb in Delhi's Nizamuddin, an official said on Saturday. The incident happened at Dargah Sharif Patte Shah around 3:30 pm on August 15. The dargah shares its boundary walls with the 16th-century garden-tomb commissioned by Mughal emperor Humayun's first wife Bega Begum in 1558.
