Congo's president says 150 reported missing after boat sinks
Congo's president says 150 people are reported missing after a boat sank on Lake Kivu in the country's east. The motorized boat was headed toward the commercial hub of Goma when it sank Monday evening. Many of the victims were believed to be traders who make the journey each week. President Felix Tshisekedi says in a Twitter post that officials will work to punish those responsible for the fatal sinking. Local authorities say only four bodies had been recovered as of late Tuesday, while 35 people had been saved. Delphin Birimbi, a civil society leader in Mbinga, told the United Nations-backed Radio Okapi that authorities need to step up surveillance of overladen boats, which frequently contribute to fatal accidents.
6 killed, 23 injured in flash floods in northwest Pakistan
At least six people were killed and 23 injured, including eight women, in recent flash floods and torrential rains in northwest Pakistan in the last 24 hours, officials said. A spokesman for provincial disaster management authority (PDMA) said that at least four people were killed and eight injured while 11 houses were damaged in incidents of roof collapse due to rains in Dikhan, Karak, Charsadda and Swat districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Peshawar received over 28 milimeters of rains in the last 24 hours. The PDMA also issued a weather alert to all the district administrations in the province. Spokesman for the Fata Disaster Management Authority (FDMA) said that two children were killed and 12 others, including eight women, injured in recent torrential rains in merged districts North Waziristan and Bajaur. At total of 14 people have been killed, 33 injured and 18 houses damaged in merged districts alone in rain related incidents since April 4 in northwest Pakistan.
Rains, thunderstorm leave over 50 dead in 4 states
Over 50 people were killed as rains coupled with thunderstorm and lightning hit several parts of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra overnight, officials said Wednesday. The unseasonal rains and storm also caused damage to property and crops in Gujarat and Rajasthan. Rajasthan witnessed the maximum casualties with 25 people killed in rain-related incidents following by Madhya Pradesh where 15 were killed. While 10 people were killed in Gujarat, three were killed in Maharashtra. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter in the morning to express anguish over the loss of lives in the rains in Gujarat and announce relief. 14 members of an Afghan family killed in Pakistan
14 members of an Afghan family, including women and children, were killed in a road accident when the vehicle they were travelling in collided head on with a truck on the Karachi-Quetta highway here. Six family members were injured in the accident that took place on Tuesday after the driver of the truck coming from the opposite direction lost control of the vehicle near Mastung on the highway. The final rites of the deceased were held on Wednesday. An official of the Edhi Welfare Trust said the deceased belonged to an extended family that resided in Karachi and were Afghans who were going to Qila Abdullah in Baluchistan for the funeral of a relative when they met with the accident. Nine people had died on the spot after the accident while five others passed away later in hospital, he said. Earlier in July last year, 20 people including women had lost their lives after their vehicle fell down off the road near Mastung on the highway.
Bihar: Govt has done nothing, but we'll cast our vote, say villagers

Assam lashed by cyclonic storm, three injured
A severe cyclonic storm accompanied with heavy showers lashed several parts of Assam in the early hours of Wednesday leaving three persons injured and a trail of destruction. The storm swept across central Assam districts of Golaghat, Nagaon and Morigaon as well as lower Assam districts of Kamrup (Metro), Kamrup, Nalbari, Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar and Dhubri from 2.45 am for several hours, officials said. It damaged houses, blew away the tin roofs of a large number of houses, uprooted trees and electric poles and snapped power lines including in Guwahati, they said adding many people were left homeless by the storm. Low-cost airline IndiGo said on Wednesday it is undergoing an audit by the aviation regulator over Pratt & Whitney engines issues."We confirm that there is currently a Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) audit on IndiGo, which is combined with the annual main base audit," it said in a statement.IndiGo has Pratt & Whitney powered Airbus A320 neo planes which have been facing problems with these engines since their fleet induction three years ago.The DGCA is also reportedly conducting a special safety audit of the airline's operations and engineering.The budget carrier said its operation is run in even more stringent ways as prescribed by regulatory framework."IndiGo has received a limited number of show-cause notices.
