Ryanair sacks 6 staffers for 'fake' photo of sleeping on airport floor

Irish low-cost airline Ryanair has sacked six cabin crew for faking a picture of themselves sleeping on the floor at Malaga Airport in Spain, where they had to stay overnight owing to inclement weather.The staged image surfaced on social media last month, after flights to Porto city in Portugal were disrupted due to thunderstorms. Several flights were diverted to Malaga. The photograph was then shared on online platforms, CNN reported.According to the security footage, the six cabin crew were seen getting into a position on the floor for the snap. 47 dead in Zimbabwe bus collision

Two buses collided with each other in southeast Zimbabwe, killing 47 people.According to state broadcaster ZBC, a bus was on its way to the capital Harare from Mutare and the other was coming in the opposite direction when the mishap occurred in Rusape town, Al Jazeera reported."We (can) confirm that 47 people have died in a road traffic accident at the 166 km peg along the Harare-Mutare highway," police spokesperson Paul Nyathi told ZBC. He added that several others were wounded in the incident.Zimbabwean transport minister Biggie Matiza, in a statement, condemned the incident, saying that he was "saddened by the development".Further details into the incident are awaited.

14 million 'on brink of famine' in Yemen: Charities

Thirty-five Yemeni and international NGOs has called for an "immediate cessation of hostilities" in Yemen, where they warned 14 million people were now "on the brink of famine". The joint appeal was signed by the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), Action Against Hunger, CARE International, Oxfam, Doctors of the World, and Yemeni organisations, according to a statement. "With 14 million men, women and children on the brink of famine -- half the country's population -- there has never been a more urgent time to act," the statement said on Wednesday. It called on governments to "secure an immediate cessation of hostilities" and "suspend the supply of arms at risk of being used in Yemen". Fire breaks out at factory, over 200 fire-related calls on Diwali

A massive fire at a factory in the Bawana area here, was among the over 200 fire-related incidents received by the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) on Diwali, officials said. No casualties have been reported in the incident at the factory and 18 fire tenders have been pressed into service to douse the blaze, the Delhi Fire Services (DFC) said. "The fire broke out at a factory in outer Delhi's Bawana locality. The call about the fire was received at 6:37 pm and immediately 18 fire tenders were rushed to the spot. "The fire team is trying the bring the situation under control. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties have been reported so far," a senior DFS officer said. Boeing 747 cargo jet skids off runway at Canada's Halifax airport

A Boeing 747 cargo jet went off the runway at the Halifax airport in eastern Canada early Wednesday morning, causing minor injuries to the four-member crew and forcing the temporary closure of the airfield. The Sky Lease cargo plane overshot the runway just after 5:00 am (local time) as it made a scheduled landing on a flight from Chicago. The plane was supposed to pick up a shipment and then fly to China. The cause of the accident was not immediately known. Images posted on social media showed the aircraft on its belly on the grass beyond the end of the runway, with a trail of debris behind it. The crew members suffered minor injuries and were treated at a local hospital, the airport authority said in a statement. 8 injured in clash between cab drivers at Mangaluru airport

Eight people were injured in a clash between drivers of cab aggregators and those belonging to the airport taxi union near the Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) here Wednesday, police said. The clash was over Ola and Uber taxi drivers picking up passengers from the airport which was not allowed so far. However, the airport authority had recently initiated a move to allow cab drivers inside the airport. The clash occurred when a driver of a cab aggregator tried to pick up a passenger from the airport. Airport taxi drivers objected to it and assaulted him. Other cab aggregator drivers rushed to the spot to protect their colleague and in the ensuing clash, eight people belonging to both the groups were injured, police said adding a case had been registered. 5 killed in Bihar road accidents

Five persons were killed and as many injured in two road accidents in West Champaran and Aurangabad districts on Wednesday, police said. Three persons were killed in Kama Bigaha village under Town police station area of Aurangabad when their was hit from behind by a speeding truck, Deputy Superintendent of Police Anoop Kumar said. He said the deceased, including a man and his daughter, hailed from Dhanbad town in neighbouring Jharkhand and they were on their way to an unspecified destination in Uttar Pradesh. Three other occupants of the car suffered serious injuries in the accident and they have been referred to a hospital in Gaya, the DSP added. Mild earthquake jolts Manipur

A mild earthquake with a magnitude of 4.1 on Richter scale jolted parts of Manipur early this morning, India Meteorological Department said. The quake occurred at 4.20 am at a depth of 49 km and the epicentre was located at Lat 24.1N and Long 94.0E, somewhere in the Chandel district of the state. There was no report of any casualty or demage to property due to the earthquake, police said.

TN minister's PA, sons die in road accident, CM condoles

: The additional special personal assistant of Tamil Nadu fisheries minister D Jayakumar and his two sons were killed in an accident on the Grand Southern Trunk Road in Cuddalore district Wednesday. The accident occurred when the car in which Loganathan and his sons-Nirmal Kumar and Sivaraman were travelling rammed into a state transport corporation bus bound for Kallakurichi from Veppur, police said. Maha govt yet to start drought relief measures, claims Munde

Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Council Dhananjay Munde claimed Wednesday that the BJP-led state government had yet to take any steps for drought relief. On October 31, the state government declared drought in 151 talukas in 26 of the 36 districts in the state. Speaking to reporters in the drought-affected Beed district, Munde said, "The declaration of drought is only on paper." The government had not yet initiated any drought relief measures, he alleged. "Beed district has been especially neglected. The chief minister is not holding review meetings here. May be because district guardian minister (Pankaja Munde, his estranged cousin) is not in the country," the NCP leader said. The drought looming over the state is worse than the one in 1972, but the government is yet to provide financial assistance and arrange supply of drinking water and fodder, he claimed. Senior citizen living alone sustains severe burns in fire,

A 65-year-old woman died of burn injuries after fire broke out in her third-floor flat in Grant Road area in south Mumbai early Wednesday morning, police said. The incident took place at Nirmal Niwas building on August Kranti Road, said a police official. The deceased was identified as Nargis Kanga, who lived alone. Seeing flames and smoke coming out of the flat, neighbours alerted police around 4 AM. Four vehicles of the fire brigade were rushed to the spot and the blaze was doused after five hours, by 9 AM, the official said. The fire brigade personnel found Kanga inside and took her to the civic-run Nair hospital where she was declared dead before admission. Kanga had sustained more than 90 per cent burn injuries, the official said. All the furniture, electrical equipment, clothes and books inside the flat were charred, he said. The death toll has risen to five in the collapse of two dilapidated apartment buildings in the southern French city of Marseille, with the pre-dawn discovery of a man's body. The Marseille fire service that has been toiling day and night with cadaver dogs to sift through the pile of rubble and beams reported the discovery on its Twitter feed. 3 dead after buildings collapse in Marseille

At least three people were killed after several buildings collapsed on Monday in southern France's Marseille city. Their bodies have been pulled out from the debris, fire authorities said.The first two buildings, located adjacent to each other, collapsed at around 9:10 am (local time). JK govt assesses Rs 500 cr loss to crops due to heavy snowfall

The Jammu and Kashmir government Tuesday assessed Rs 500 crore losses to the state's agriculture and horticulture sectors due to the recent heavy snowfall and urged the Centre to provide relief to the affected farmers. Chief Secretary B V R Subrahmanyam urged the central government to depute a team to the state to assess the damages caused by heavy snowfall, an official spokesman said. In a communication addressed to Union Secretary, Department of Agriculture Cooperation and Farmers Welfare, Subrahmanyam said the extent of damage was so huge that the state government needed assistance from the Centre. Drunk man sets 18 vehicles on fire in Delhi; FIR registered

A drunk man reportedly set 18 vehicles, including four cars, on fire in south Delhi's Madangir area Tuesday, police said. A case has been registered under relevant sections of IPC against the man, who is in his mid 20s, they said. The police said 14 two-wheelers and four cars were set on fire by the accused. In a video of the incident which has gone viral, the man can be seen setting fire to the vehicles after opening the fuel pipe of the motorcycles. Petrol overflowed from the tanks of six motorcycles after which they were set on fire by a match stick. The cars parked nearby also caught fire, a senior police official said. The police rushed to the spot after receiving information of the incident at around 3.05 am Tuesday and doused the fire. Police said efforts are on to trace the accused who is on the run. Among the burnt vehicles, eight two-wheelers and two cars were completely gutted, while six motorcycles and two cars were affected partially.
