UP: Four of a family killed as dumper rams into house

Four members of a family were killed when a dumper rammed into a roadside house in the Karari area here on Wednesday, police said. The accident took place in the early hours in Sadikpur Semraha village, they added. The victims were sleeping on the verandah when the dumper, laden with building construction material, rammed into the house, police said. The deceased have been identified as Shiv Pratap, 55, his wife Shivkali, 53, and their grandchildren Ajay, 15, and Badli, 5, police said. The locals caught hold of the driver and severely beat him up, they said.

Military helicopter with 20 on board crashes in Afghanistan

A military helicopter carrying 20 passengers, including officials, crashed in the Anar Dana district here on Wednesday.Stating that there are no survivors, 207 Zafar Military Corps spokesperson Najibullah Najibi said that two choppers were flying together when one of them crashed, according to TOLOnews.Spokesman for the ground forces unit of the corps Noorulhaq Khaliqi mentioned that head of Farah Provincial Council Farid Bakhtawar was on board during the time of the crash along with Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the 207 Zafar Military Corps Nematullah Khalil and a member of the provincial council, Jamila Amini.The cause of the crash is yet to be ascertained.

4 survivors, 3 dead, several missing in Philippine landslide

Rescuers have pulled out four survivors and three bodies but several more were missing after a massive landslide set off by a typhoon crashed down on two government buildings in a northern Philippine mountain province, officials said Wednesday. Regional police Chief Superintendent Rolando Nana said at least 18 more people still are missing from the landslide in the far-flung town of Natonin in Mountain province. Smaller land- and rockslides on roads leading to Natonin have slowed the advance of more rescuers and earth-moving equipment. Indonesia military chief 'strongly believes' crashed jet found

The smashed fuselage of a crashed Indonesian jetliner may have been found, the country's military chief said Wednesday, two days after the deadly accident feared to have killed 189 people. Hadi Tjahjanto said authorities were confident sonar technology had pinpointed the location of the Boeing 737-MAX plane that plunged into the sea on Monday. "We strongly believe we've determined the coordinates of the JT 610 fuselage," he told reporters in Jakarta. "However, it has not yet been confirmed that it is part of the fuselage." Lion Air crash: Indonesia directs inspection of all Boeing 737 Max 8 planes

Indonesia has directed all Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft belonging to commercial airlines in the country to undergo an inspection in the wake of the tragedy involving Lion Air flight 610 that killed all 189 people on board.Captain Avirianto, an Indonesian Transportation Ministry official, told CNN that Lion Air is currently in possession of 11 of one of Boeing's most advanced airplanes. 4 hurt as fire breaks out in Nizamuddin Basti

Four persons, including a woman and her two children, sustained minor burn injures after a fire broke out at two buildings in Nizamuddin Basti in south Delhi Tuesday, police said. A call about the fire was received at 5.54 pm and five fire tenders were rushed to the spot, a senior officer of Delhi Fire Service said. Police said they were informed about the incident at 6.07 pm and immediately, a team of officers were rushed to the spot. Four persons who sustained minor burn injuries were rushed to Safdarjung Burn Casualty and according to duty doctor, all the four injured have sustained burn less that five percent, Vijay Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) said. The fire was brought under control by 7.25 pm, the senior officer from Delhi Fire Service added. The injured were identified as Gulzaar (40), Shahista (35) and her sons Sehzaad (6) and Inzamam (8), the senior police officer said. Karnataka seeks Rs 2,434 cr for drought relief from Centre

Maharashtra government pushes for fodder production

The animal husbandry department of the Maharashtra government has invited farmers to grow fodder from November onwards for cattle heads in the state, where 180 talukas are facing a drought-like situation, an official said Tuesday. Contract grass production is a state policy which offers farmers some monetary returns in return for fodder production. The animal husbandry department has stated that requirement of fodder would be around 1.63 lakh tonne of green fodder and 65,000 tonne of dry variety. "They are required for the fodder camps which are going to be set up for cattle. Some 180 tehsils have been declared as facing a drought-like situation. "So, 1.95 crore cattle from these tehsils need green and dry fodder, said the official. The Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana has sanctioned Rs 10 crore for the same.
