An Argentine airline says fifteen passengers aboard a flight from Miami to Buenos Aires suffered minor injuries after their plane hit turbulence. Eight of the passengers were taken in for a second check-up. Odisha government asked district collectors and agriculture department Friday to conduct field inspection to ascertain damages to cultivation by Cyclone Titli and subsequent floods, officials said. The action came a day after the state asked the Centre to immediately release Rs 1,000 crore as interim assistance for relief and restoration works for the cyclone and flood affected areas. Deputy Relief Commissioner Prabhat Ranjan Mohapatra said the special relief commissioner (SRC) has directed the district collectors of the 17 affected districts and the agriculture department to conduct field inspection and submit reports in regard to crop damage. Mohapatra said the farmers will be provided input subsidy for crop loss on the basis of the reports. He said as per the norms of NDRF and SDRF, the state government will give agriculture in-put subsidy at the rate of Rs 13,500 per hectare for irrigated land and Rs 6,800 per hectare for non-irrigated land. Chinese Embassy spokesperson Counselor Ji Rong said that his country has activated the 'Emergency Information Sharing Mechanism' with India following the landslide on Wednesday morning near Jiala Village in Milin County in the lower ranges of Yaluzangbu river in Tibet. The Indian official said, "They (China) first informed us on Wednesday about the landslide and creation of an artificial lake. Water is over-topping (breaching). A woman passenger has alleged that SpiceJet staff did not treat her properly after a bottle fell on her head when a flight attendant was removing a bag from an overhead bin, with the airline saying it was an "unintentional mishap" and rejected many of her claims. The incident happened on flight SG 169 when it was to take off from the national capital to Mumbai on October 16. The passenger, Shradha Shrimal Tripathi, took to Facebook alleging that she was not treated properly after she was hurt as a "bottle filled with water" fell on her head. Speaking to PTI on Thursday, Tripathi said she had a small cut when the bottle's hook hit her on the head and a bump on her forehead. At least four members of a family were killed in a road accident on Friday after the vehicle they were travelling in was hit by a dumper in northwest Pakistan, said police. The incident happened in Mansehra district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province when a dumper went out of driver's control and dashed into a taxi the family members were travelling in. Two of the members were killed on the spot, while two others sustained critical wounds, said the police. The injured were later shifted to a hospital by local volunteers where they succumbed to their injuries.
Four French marines were injured in an accident involving a helicopter on an assault ship in the North Sea, the armed forces said Friday. The accident took place about 70 nautical miles (about 130 kilometres) off the coast of Dunkirk on Wednesday night, when the combat helicopter attempted to take off from the Dixmude ship for a training flight, the military said in a statement on Twitter, without giving details. The helicopter's crew escaped unharmed but four navy members working on the flight deck were injured, one seriously. Two persons were killed after their motorcycle was hit by a truck here, police said Friday. The accident occurred near Shahpur Titiha village Thursday night, they said. A goods train derailed between Berhampur and Golanthra railway stations in Odisha early Friday, affecting traffic on the route for five hours. Two passenger trains - Puri-Palasa and Bhubaneswar-Berhampur - were cancelled after as many wagons of an empty goods train went off tracks around 1.30am, said J P Mishra, the chief public relations officer (CPRO) of East Coast Railway. The goods train was on its way to Waltair in Andhra Pradesh from Khurda Road in the state. On getting information, senior officers from Berhampur and Khurda Road rushed to the site with a relief van to restore services on the stretch, the CPRO said. "The wagons were put back on tracks in around five hours under supervision of Khurda Road Additional Divisional Railway Manager S P Dwivedi. While two trains were cancelled due to the restoration work, some others ran on one line to avoid any inconvenience to passengers," he added.
Four people including a woman were charred to death on Friday when a bus bound for Madurai rammed into a cargo truck near here resulting in the two vehicles going up in flames, police said. The accident occurred when the bus hit the cement cargo-laden truck which was making a U-turn, police said adding, that it resulted in the fuel tank exploding, causing a fire. A total of 13 people were injured in the mishap, they said. "The drivers of the two vehicles, a bus cleaner and a 25-year old woman passenger later identified as Monisha, a native of Aruppukottai were charred to death," a senior police official told PTI. The luxury sleeper bus had 23 passengers onboard and most of them were asleep when the accident occurred at about 1.30 am, the official said. A policeman who was among the passengers helped some of the occupants to exit through the emergency door of the bus.
